  • STILFOLD

    Participated · Equity · Apr 2024

STILFOLD is a Stockholm-based tech company that commercialises a material‑efficient manufacturing technology aimed at transforming industrial manufacturing and mobility. The company emerged from a research project supported by the Swedish Innovation Agency and is owned and developed by STILRIDE AB. STILFOLD’s technology focuses on simplifying shapes, eliminating welds and optimising construction to reduce material use, waste and environmental impact. It operates as a B2B division, pursuing commercialisation through service offerings, licensing and solution provision. STILFOLD has launched MetaFold Academy, a modular training programme teaching eco-innovation, energy efficiency and resource management to drive green manufacturing across Europe. The programme is backed by almost SEK 5M (€427K) in funding and targets 250 engineers and designers across four training centres, with Volvo Group participating as a pilot customer. Stilride is a Stockholm-based electromobility and industrial tech startup developing STILFOLD, a sustainable production process for forming steel. STILFOLD uses robotic arms to fold steel over curves to create light, strong and durable shapes while minimising resource use and waste, reducing the climate impact versus traditional manufacturing. The company’s first product built with the technology is the Sport Utility Scooter One (SUS1), an e-motorcycle slated for mass-market sale next year. Stilride says it will use the recent funding to accelerate growth, drive innovation and further develop STILFOLD. The company has opened a Crowdcube community fundraise to let individual enthusiasts participate with smaller investments. Stilride was founded by Jonas Nyvang (CEO) and Tue Beijer and is based in Stockholm, Sweden. STILRIDE builds sustainable electric motorcycles using a proprietary STILFOLD 'industrial origami' manufacturing process that uses robots to fold single sheets of steel into lightweight, detailed, and durable chassis and bodies. The technique is designed to reduce the environmental impact of production while producing distinctive, futuristic designs. The company plans to roll out a fleet of electric motorcycles and expects to deliver its first shipment to some 90,000 waiting European customers later this year. Founders Tue Beijer and Jonas Nyvang bring backgrounds in industrial design, engineering and fashion, and have positioned the product at the intersection of technology, mobility and design. STILRIDE is also investigating expanding the lineup to include cargo bikes and trailers. Financially, the company has just closed a €3 million seed round and has raised a total of €4.4 million to date.
