- PolyTherics
Participated · Equity · Mar 2010
PolyTherics has developed three proprietary technologies for attaching polyethylene glycol (PEG) to therapeutic peptides and proteins to slow drug elimination and extend duration of action. Its PEGylation approaches enable site-specific conjugation without reengineering protein sequences and have been applied to a range of existing proteins, peptides and novel protein scaffolds. The technology aims to allow less frequent dosing, potentially decreasing side effects and improving patient compliance. Led by CEO John Burt, the company positions its platform for broader application across protein and peptide therapeutics. PolyTherics intends to use the new funding to apply its technologies to an expanding range of proteins and peptides and to pursue new applications, including providing a more stable linker for antibody and protein drug conjugates. The company has completed multiple financings, demonstrating continued investor support for its platform. PolyTherics is a London, UK–based developer of a suite of technologies aimed at improving the properties of biologics for therapeutic use. Its proprietary PEGylation platforms, HiPEG™ and CyPEG, are being developed for novel peptides and proteins as potential “biobetter” products. The company completed a £3.0m funding round to advance those platforms. The financing follows a prior £2.3m round in June 2007 backed by the same investor syndicate. As part of the transaction, Imperial Innovations appointed Robert Bahns to PolyTherics' board. Two non-executive directors, Till Medinger and Stephane Mery, resigned in conjunction with the financing.
- Domainex
Led · Equity · Jun 2008
Domainex is a privately owned drug discovery company founded in 2002 and based in Cambridge, UK. It develops small-molecule programs supported by a discovery platform built around Combinatorial Domain Hunting (CDH), LeadBuilder virtual screening, and integrated medicinal and computational chemistry. The company also operates a service business that recently won new translational-research contracts with UK universities. Its internal development programs focus on kinase targets TBK1/IKKe and an epigenetics portfolio targeting lysine methyltransferases. Management says it is approaching selection of a clinical candidate for the TBK1/IKKe programme and will use part of the new investment to move that programme toward an out-licensing deal; the majority of funds will progress the epigenetics portfolio. Three compounds from Domainex collaborations are in clinical evaluation and two additional drugs are in preclinical studies. Domainex is a biopharmaceutical company. It was spun out from University College London, The Institute of Cancer Research and Birkbeck College London. Longbow Capital led an investment in the company. The Capital Fund also participated alongside Longbow Capital. The two investors together invested
