Overview

A constituent school of the vast UT System, the University of Texas – Pan American (UTPA) primarily serves students in the Rio Grande Valley area of southern Texas. As a result of its location, UTPA has a diverse student body, making college life at the university a vibrant, culturally enriching experience. The University of Texas – Pan American’s academics are also quite diverse. The university offers more than 110 degree programs through several academic units: * College of Arts and Humanities * College of Business Administration * College of Education * College of Engineering and Computer Science * College of Health Sciences and Human Services * College of Science and Mathematics * College of Social and Behavioral Sciences In addition to bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, UTPA also a handful of doctorates, including International Business and Rehabilitation Counseling. Financial aid at UTPA is available in many forms. In addition to state and federal aid programs, the university offers need-based grants and merit-based scholarships. Make sure to file the FAFSA by the prescribed deadline for maximum financial aid consideration. UTPA’s admissions requirements include a minimum SAT score of 18 or an 860 on the SAT. If you graduated from a Texas high school in the top 10% of your class or earned an IB diploma, you will receive automatic admission.

    EnergyX, founded by Teague Egan in 2018, develops advanced lithium production and critical mineral supply chain infrastructure. The company deploys its GET-Lit™ Direct Lithium Extraction technology platform, which it states is supported by over 150 patents. EnergyX is leading Project Black Giant™ in Antofagasta, Chile, which is planned to produce 52,500 tpa of lithium carbonate across two phases and may be expanded through additional phases. In July 2026 EnergyX announced a $225 million strategic equity investment from Eni into Project Black Giant™ and has a $690 million debt financing LOI from the U.S. EXIM Bank for commercialization and operation. Eni’s investment includes offtake rights with an option to lift 25% of the project’s lithium materials. The company is associated with operations or offices in Santiago, Chile and Austin, Texas.

Its core product is the Forcespinning platform, which enables manufacturers to produce nanofibers at commercial scale using a wide range of polymers and an environmentally sensitive process. The company supplies nanofibers for markets including filtration, nonwovens, battery separators, textiles, biomedical and conductive applications. FibeRio intends to use the recent funding to accelerate commercial growth and introduce larger-scale production systems to the market. The company is led by CEO Ellery Buchanan.

    Palmaz Scientific, based in Dallas, TX, develops and commercializes patented metallurgical surface nanotechnologies for the manufacture of implantable medical devices. Its core technology uses physical vapor deposition to deposit atomic layers that produce very strong, high‑purity metals fabricated into low‑profile implantable devices. Product applications cited include all‑metal micromesh thin film coverings for stents, micro‑neuro and vascular stents, angioplasty balloons, drug‑delivery devices, and cosmetic and orthopedic implants. The company has also developed patented process methods intended to accelerate healing of cells on metals used in implantable devices. The recent funding will be used to commercialize those patented nanotechnology processes and introduce innovative vascular stents and other implantable devices to market. Palmaz is led by Dr. Julio Palmaz alongside a management team of executives, physicians, scientists and engineers.
