- IONNYK
Participated · Series A · Jan 2022
IONNYK, founded in 2020 and based in Brussels, manufactures a luxury connected art frame that uses millions of ink capsules to simulate photographic paper and runs cable-free on a battery that can last up to 12 months. Owners control the frame via a smartphone app and can access a continually evolving catalogue of exclusive black-and-white photographic artworks through a subscription or by purchasing limited-edition works (NFTs). Since launch the company has built a catalogue of over 1,500 artworks from 20 countries and formed partnerships with luxury brands, hotels, restaurants and furniture makers. IONNYK also offers a rental product aimed at corporate environments and is focusing on B2B luxury hospitality clients while growing B2C activity in the Benelux and France. The company plans further international expansion, including a Paris showroom opening in September 2023 and future rollouts to Germany, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Japan and other markets. Recent funding will be used to strengthen B2B offerings, cover working capital needs, and support broader commercialization of its hardware and content offerings. IONNYK builds cordless connected art frames using e‑paper technology that reflects ambient light, offers a wide field of view and can hold images indefinitely. The frames run on a battery with reported life of up to 12 months per charge and come in 4:3 and 16:9 formats. The company offers nearly 1,000 black-and-white photographs and artworks via a subscription service and also sells limited-edition works and NFTs exclusive to its platform. Owners cannot upload personal imagery; content is delivered via the company’s catalogue and NFT marketplace where customers and artists can buy, sell and resell works. IONNYK positions the product for both residential collectors (rotating curated series and themed “Story” concepts) and commercial settings, and highlights use cases such as temporary exhibitions and live events. The company says it will expand its artist collective, grow its catalogue, optimise production and develop new customer experiences as it scales internationally.
- VOCSense
Participated · Seed · Oct 2021
VOCSens has developed EnviCam®, an environmental camera composed of multi-pixel gas microsensors that convert gas-related signals into electrical signals which AI algorithms translate into concentration values. The tiny sensors use polymeric and nanocomposite materials with a patented process (CMOSEnvi™) compatible with CMOS manufacturing, and the devices are described as very small, energy-efficient and up to 50× cheaper than competitors. Target markets include (petro)chemistry, water purification and recycling, industrial safety, smart cities and buildings, disease monitoring and food spoilage detection. The company aims to industrialise its gas microsensors and commercialise them in the chemical, petrochemical, recycling and smart city sectors by the second half of 2022. To support that industrialisation and deployment, VOCSens raised seed funding in 2021 and secured investor partnerships to strengthen ties with Industry 4.0 companies. VOCSens is the result of over 15 years of UCLouvain research, was founded in February 2019, and is based in Louvain-la-Neuve at the European Business and Innovation Centre (CEI Louvain).
