Overview

Founded in 2022 as a spin-off of the University of Bologna, Adaptronics designs, manufactures, and sells electro-adhesive devices based on its proprietary Electro-Active Adhesive Layer (EAAL) technology. EAAL uses electrostatic forces with integrated tactile feedback to let robots grasp objects of any shape or material in under 10 ms and with up to 1,000× the efficiency of conventional pneumatic, magnetic, or mechanical grippers. The solution operates in both terrestrial factories and the harsh vacuum of space, targeting use cases from industrial automation to satellite maintenance, refueling, and debris removal. The company is incubated at I3P (Politecnico di Torino) and is an alumnus of ESA BIC Turin, reflecting strong ties to Europe’s aerospace ecosystem. With a €3.15 million equity round led by 360 Capital and Galaxia already secured and a new €2.5 million EIC Accelerator grant just awarded, Adaptronics is well-funded to accelerate in-orbit validation and commercial rollout. Management aims to position the firm as the European reference point for electro-adhesive robotic gripping technology. No revenue or user metrics were disclosed in the article.
