Overview
Composer Technologies provides an automated investing platform that allows users to build, backtest, and invest in strategies via a no-code editor. An in-house investment team sources ideas from academic research and the work of investment funds to provide templates that can be used off-the-shelf or modified. Each strategy goes through a rigorous screening process and aims to capture upside while protecting downside. The platform targets investors who want automated, market-reactive strategies with no-code customization. Composer is led by CEO Benjamin Rollert and is Canadian with a US focus. Financially, the company raised an additional $6M in this round, bringing total capital raised to over $11M. Composer offers a no-code visual editor and ready-made strategies that let individual, non-professional investors create, backtest against historical data, and automatically execute sophisticated, hedge fund–style trading approaches. The platform launched a closed beta in March 2021 and moved to an open beta rollout in November 2021, with live trading initially focused on the United States and plans to expand to other geographies over time. Composer is targeting “edge-seeking” retail investors who spend time on newsletters and Reddit forums, and plans later to broaden to more systematic self-directed retail users. The company emphasizes user experience and design as a key differentiator versus incumbent trading platforms. Composer disclosed C$6.73 million in previously unannounced seed financing (totaling amounts from an earlier pre-seed and seed) to fuel the platform launch. Longer-term monetization plans mentioned by the CEO include building a two-sided marketplace for creators to sell strategies, freemium features, and potential SaaS offerings.
