Fractory

Chicago, IL, 60606, US

Overview

Fractory operates a cloud manufacturing platform that lets engineers upload CAD files and uses an algorithm to select the best-suited manufacturing partner based on price, location, materials and methods. The platform gives engineers and purchasing managers real-time access to a wide range of manufacturing methods, aiming to shift them from data collectors to decision-makers. Fractory was founded in 2017 by Martin Vares, Joosep Merelaht and Rein Torm and is Estonian-founded and based in Manchester. The company primarily operates in Scandinavia and the United Kingdom. It employs 64 people and reported turnover of nearly €15 million in 2022. The additional capital will be used to expand in existing markets, mainly the United Kingdom and Scandinavia. Fractory operates a marketplace and enterprise software stack that lets customers upload CAD files and routes metalwork jobs to a network of specialist manufacturers. The platform handles services such as laser cutting, metal folding and CNC machining and currently automates about 30% of jobs while the remaining 70% receive human-supported quoting and fulfillment. To date Fractory has worked with more than 24,000 customers, hundreds of manufacturers and has helped produce over 2.5 million metal parts. The company says it aims to increase automation through investments in RPA and computer vision and to expand into industrial additive 3D printing and other materials. Fractory emphasizes keeping manufacturing local to reduce logistics and carbon emissions as it grows. The business is using new funding to continue expanding its technology and bringing more partners into its ecosystem.
