Genomines
5 Rue Eugène Freyssinet, Paris, Île-de-France, 75013, France
Overview
Genomines is a Paris-based metal extraction company pioneering plant-based "phytomining" to produce battery-grade nickel. Its proprietary platform engineers hyperaccumulator plants that absorb and concentrate nickel from soil, after which the biomass is processed into high-purity metal. This approach promises faster production cycles, cost reductions, and dramatically lower carbon emissions compared with conventional mining. Early commercial partners include Hyundai Motor Group and Jaguar Land Rover, underscoring industrial demand for cleaner nickel. With the new capital, the team plans full-scale field demonstrations of nickel production and the negotiation of large offtake contracts to secure long-term revenue streams. To date, Genomines has raised $62 million, comprising a $5 million seed round, $12 million in non-dilutive funding from BPI France programs, and the latest $45 million Series A.
