Overview
Nomad operates a platform that offers Brazilians a digital U.S. account, FDIC coverage up to $250k, a U.S. card with reduced IOF, and access to more than 2,000 international investment options including U.S. stocks, ETFs, REITs and curated funds. The app also provides features like installment remittance (parcelamento de remessas) and has pioneered parceling in reais for expenses to be used abroad. The company says it has processed over R$1 billion in card transactions since early 2023 and more than R$5 billion in international transfers. Nomad plans to use new funding to expand its global investments platform, launch new products and enter the credit market with a Brazilian credit card. The fintech acquired Husky (an international transfers startup) late last year using Series A resources and intends to invest further in that area. Founded in 2019 in Brazil, Nomad positions itself as a Brazil‑focused product built to deliver a global financial journey for local customers. Nomad offers a 100% digital way for Brazilians to open a U.S. bank account and provides a suite of dollar-denominated services including a free international debit card, payments, transfers, remittances and access to global investments. The company also offers curated international investment portfolios powered by technology developed by scholars from MIT and Stanford, and plans to launch a trading platform soon. Nomad emphasizes cost savings for users—claiming roughly 10% savings versus typical Brazilian credit-card usage—and supports wallet integrations like Apple Pay. It has over 50,000 accounts opened and expects to reach 120,000 by the end of the year as travel reopens. The fintech was launched in November 2020 and currently has a team of 75 employees, planning to grow to about 150 by year-end. Recent capital will be used to expand operations, develop and launch new products, and hire across technology and business teams. Nomad offers Brazilian customers the ability to open a U.S. checking account remotely through its app, with Portuguese customer support and passport-based onboarding. Its core product set includes banking (checking account and debit card), currency exchange for remittances to the U.S., and an investments product that the company plans to launch soon. The startup is rolling out a physical debit card for purchases and ATM withdrawals in the U.S. and building functionality for payments between U.S. accounts. Nomad emphasizes cost savings versus Brazilian credit cards through lower FX spread and IOF, and enables dollar receipts for freelancers and online creators without typical fees. The company plans to expand account usability to countries beyond the United States and aims to reach 100,000 active customers in the next year. Founders include Patrick Sigrist, Marcos Nader and Eduardo Haber, whose prior exits and industry experience attracted investor interest.
