Overview

Surge develops an AI-powered platform for deep immune-system analysis and biomarker discovery aimed at advancing precision medicine. The company says its technology has demonstrated relevance to concrete clinical needs and to integrating precision medicine into surgical care. Surge plans to open SurgeLab, a dedicated laboratory for discovering immune biomarkers, and to finalize industrialization of its PreCyte product. The €7.5 million second funding round and complementary grants from BPI will support those initiatives and further refine its AI algorithms. Surge highlights a team of top researchers and significant technological advances as foundations for its work. The financing marks the start of a commercial expansion phase for the company. Surge develops an immune-profiling platform that decodes a patient’s immune system from a blood sample and uses machine-learning algorithms to predict risk of surgical complications and propose preventive management strategies. The core product combines biological analysis of the immune system with an AI algorithm and is hosted in the U.S. by StartX and sponsored in Europe by Agoranov, 50 Partners, LallianSe, and Wilco. Surge aims to expand and diversify applications of its technology to deliver immune-profiling tools for all surgical complications and eventually apply the methodology to other therapeutic areas. The company holds an exclusive license from Stanford University to patented postoperative complication prediction technology developed by Brice Gaudillière and signed a research agreement with Stanford in summer 2022 to develop biotech innovations. The funding will support team development and clinical studies, including a study launched in spring 2022 with Foch Hospital in Suresnes, France to validate predictions of surgical site infections in abdominal surgery. Surge received the 2022 iLab grant and additional non-dilutive funds that helped complete the fundraising.
