Yellow
Rua Lourenço Marques, 297, São Paulo, Brazil
Overview
Yellow operates a bike- and e-scooter-sharing service that is currently available in São Paulo. The company was founded by Ariel Lambrecht and Renato Freitas (who sold ridesharing startup 99 to Didi Chuxing) together with bicycle-industry veteran Eduardo Musa. Yellow emphasizes vertical integration: its bikes are sourced locally and it plans to build a regional scooter manufacturing facility to avoid dependence on Chinese suppliers. With the new capital the company plans to expand to Mexico City, Colombia, Chile and Argentina and to add e-bikes to its product mix. Leadership cites supply-chain control and local manufacturing as key to managing hardware inflows and quality for growth. Yellow is a Brazil-based mobility startup building a dockless bike-share service. The company raised a $9 million seed round to fund initial deployments. Yellow plans to deploy its first 20,000 dockless bikes with a target of 100,000 bikes this summer and an ultimate vision of more than one million bikes. Founders Ariel Lambrecht and Renato Freitas previously sold ride-hail company 99 to Didi in a $1 billion deal earlier this year; third co-founder is Eduardo Musa, former CEO of bike manufacturer Caloi. Yellow also intends to deploy e-scooters and e-bikes and says the service will integrate with public transit to improve urban circulation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
