- Spark e-Fuels
Participated · Seed · Feb 2025
Spark e-Fuels develops a patented, demand-responsive e-fuel production process designed to integrate intermittent renewable electricity and reduce the need for large hydrogen storage or grid upgrades. Its core product targets scalable, cost-competitive sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production and has wider applicability across the chemical industry’s decarbonisation. The company says its approach decouples and streamlines key production steps to handle day-to-day and seasonal variations in renewable energy supply, lowering costs while maintaining high output. With the new funding Spark plans to build its first e-fuel pilot plant, expand its team, and accelerate technology development and commercialisation. Spark was founded in 2021 and is based in Berlin. Financially, the company has raised a €2.3M pre-Seed round and has also won roughly €300k in grants.
- Quantistry
Participated · Equity · Mar 2024
Quantistry offers a cloud-native chemical simulation platform used to design and discover new sustainable materials. Its solution leverages Quantum and AI-based techniques to improve sustainability and efficiency in industrial R&D. The company targets leaders across strategic industrial sectors worldwide. Quantistry plans to use the newly raised capital to accelerate its efforts to transform chemical R&D and materials discovery. The company raised €3M in the reported funding round. Marcel Quennet serves as CEO.
- faCellitate
Participated · Seed · Sep 2022
faCellitate develops an intelligent, ultra-low attachment polymer surface coating platform for plastic and glassware, with an initial commercial product (BIOFLOAT™ 96-well plate) targeting reproducible 3D cell culture. The coating platform supports chemistry-driven surface modification and applications such as cell- and protein-repellent surfaces and biospecific surfaces under the BIOINSTRUCT™ brand. The company was formed at Chemovator (BASF’s internal venture builder) and was spun off at the end of 2021; it is based in Mannheim with labs in Heidelberg. faCellitate reports one product already on the market with positive customer feedback and is rolling out further plate formats and new product lines. Management says the company will leverage cross-selling opportunities and expand its product pipeline over the next 12–24 months. The team is led by co‑founder and CEO Dr. Simon Widmaier.
