Caudal Energy designs an oscillating foil "Caudal Generator" inspired by marine mammal tail fin hydrodynamics to harvest predictable tidal power using a modular, surface-mounted architecture. Its fin-based platform is engineered to operate efficiently in mid-flow tidal locations (peak flows above 3 knots), expanding the range of viable sites compared with conventional turbine systems that require higher peak flows. The modular design aims to simplify installation, lower maintenance and operational complexity, and reduce levelized cost of energy to be competitive with established technologies such as offshore wind. The technology has reached Technology Readiness Level 5 and is entering full-scale testing at Strangford Lough, with a targeted first commercial deployment in 2028 to reach TRL8. Caudal was founded in 2024 (originally Porpoise Power) based on breakthrough hydrodynamic research from the University of Oxford and is advancing commercial partnerships across utility, industrial and distributed energy markets.

These activities are among the most dangerous and time-critical steps in container handling, and the company’s solution is designed to improve occupational safety, reliability, and process predictability for terminal operators facing labor shortages. Leveraging expertise drawn from space robotics at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the team is engineering hardware that can be remotely operated and function reliably in harsh maritime environments. With its newly raised capital, Seal Robotics plans to expand ongoing pilot projects in Northern Europe and Southeast Asia and to launch its first commercial robotic systems within the next year. Over the coming twelve months the company will also grow its engineering and operations teams and deepen partnerships with terminal operators worldwide. The pre-seed financing of approximately €1.8 million provides the resources to meet growing demand for container-handling automation and to harden the technology for full-scale deployment.
