- Boston Materials
Led · Equity · Nov 2024
Boston Materials is a materials-science company focused on solving thermal bottlenecks in advanced semiconductor packaging with its patented Z-axis Carbon Fiber™ architecture and proprietary liquid-metal alloys. Its flagship product line, Liquid Metal ZRT®, has already reached the market with the first-generation LMZ1100, which the company claims provides more than a 10 °C cooling improvement for kilowatt-scale, liquid-cooled accelerators while maintaining compatibility with high-volume manufacturing. The firm is now developing a second-generation Liquid Metal ZRT aimed at high-power ASICs and GPUs used in AI and HPC data centers. Through a new strategic partnership with Mitsubishi Chemical Group, Boston Materials will leverage MCG’s global electronic-materials supply chain and upcoming semiconductor-packaging labs in Asia to accelerate product qualification and scale deployment, particularly across APAC. Mitsubishi Chemical’s validation testing has reportedly confirmed the performance gains over incumbent and next-gen thermal interface materials, positioning Boston Materials as a key supplier for next-generation AI infrastructure. CEO Anvesh Gurijala highlights thermal management as a critical constraint on AI growth and sees this collaboration as a catalyst for revenue scale-up and expanded U.S. manufacturing.
- Lingrove
Led · Series B · Dec 2023
Lingrove develops a carbon-negative wood veneer alternative called "ekoa", made from flax fiber and plant-based resins. The company says ekoa delivers "very high stiffness, durable, and resistant" performance comparable to or better than traditional veneers and laminates. Management highlights indoor-air benefits, noting ekoa is low-VOC and can improve indoor air quality versus some recycled plastics that offgas. CEO Joe Luttwak said, "We have a healthy-air, low-carbon, high-performing and beautiful product." Ekoa can be tuned for different shades and opacities and can be ground up and reused at end of life. Lingrove raised $10 million in a Series B to scale manufacturing, fulfill preorders, and expand into automotive interiors.
- Prime Roots
Led · Series B · May 2023
Prime Roots, led by founder and CEO Kimberlie Le, produces sliceable plant-based deli meats and charcuterie made from koji. Its product line includes flavors such as turkey, ham, salami, pepperoni, as well as bacon, pâté and foie gras. The products are designed for use in deli counters and restaurants and contain no nitrates, preservatives, cholesterol, soy, or wheat and are lower in sodium. The company raised a $30M Series B that brought its total funding to approximately $50M. Prime Roots intends to use the funds to scale production and expand distribution into deli counters and restaurants nationwide.
- Eridan
Participated · Equity · May 2022
Eridan develops proprietary gallium nitride radios and the MIRACLE RF Front End Module, a paperback-sized module that sits between the modem and antenna and will be available with OpenRAN standard interfaces. The company says the module is intended for telecom equipment manufacturers building small cells and Massive MIMO systems for urban and suburban locations and is currently available for laboratory evaluation in limited quantities. Eridan holds more than 29 patents issued and pending and is exploring applications beyond consumer wireless, including enterprise and municipal wireless, IoT, and defense and public safety. The company plans to use the new funds to advance commercialization of its modules and to hire additional engineers in its two primary locations, California and Croatia. Eridan has already received over $30M in contracts funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. The company is led by CEO Doug Kirkpatrick.
