Cortilia is an e-commerce platform offering a catalogue of 2,500 fresh food products delivered from farmers, breeders and artisans. The company promotes sustainable, healthy consumption through a short supply chain integrating more than 250 small and medium-sized local producers. Its service is active in Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont, and in 2021 the company planned to move staff and operations to a new 50,000 m2 “green” headquarters near Milan. Founded in 2011 by Marco Porcaro and based in Milan, Cortilia employed 50 people supported by 200 external collaborators. In 2020 the company reported turnover of €33 million, a 175% increase over 2019. Cortilia has updated its Articles of Association to become a benefit corporation and intends to use new funding to expand across Italy and invest in technologies to maintain quality, safety and sustainability. Cortilia operates a farm-to-table grocery delivery platform based in northern Italy, offering roughly 2,000 items from local farmers, producers and artisans. The company uses technology to monitor farmer supply chains and optimize deliveries, keeping efficiency and sustainability central to its model. Cortilia reports product surplus of only 1% of total grocery volume, which it donates to Banco Alimentare. It targets both the online generation seeking seasonal Italian food and older, offline generations who value fresh, regional products. The Italian grocery market is estimated at €150 billion while online adoption is under 1%, a large opportunity that also presents a major adoption challenge. Cortilia plans to expand across Italy while maintaining its focus on sustainable distribution and operational efficiency under founder and CEO Marco Porcaro. Cortilia is an agricultural online marketplace launched in January 2011 by Marco Porcaro that connects local farmers with consumers via doorstep delivery of fresh, seasonal produce. The platform offers subscription-style or one-off boxes of regional products sold through its online service. By 2014 it reported more than 50,000 customers and year-to-date annual revenues of over €2m. The company plans to use new funding to expand operations, consolidate its market position in Italy, extend its product range and invest in R&D by hiring additional staff. The recent financing is part of a €5m midterm investment plan. To date Cortilia has raised a total of €2.5m.
