- Primo1D
Participated · Equity · Mar 2019
Primo1D produces E-Thread, a plastic-free, miniaturized RAIN UHF RFID tag designed to be integrated into products during manufacturing and remain functional throughout a product’s lifecycle. The E-Thread tag provides high-durability identification, authentication, and traceability and creates a persistent link between items and cloud-based IoT systems. Customers integrate E-Thread into garments and industrial goods so the tag is inseparable from the product and can be used for lifecycle data storage, management, and sharing. Primo1D positions the technology to address digitization of complex supply chains, Industry 4.0 requirements, and circular-economy initiatives. The company is targeting high-volume markets including fast fashion, professional clothing, tires, and electrical cables as it scales manufacturing. Primo1D was founded in 2013 and is based in Grenoble. Primo1D develops E-Thread, a filament (wired) RFID technology designed to embed traceability and identification into objects across sectors such as apparel, tires, electrical cables and agriculture. The technology was imagined at CEA Leti and the company was founded in August 2013; it is based in Grenoble and employs 17 people. Primo1D has already commercialized an initial series of products for the clothing and industrial sectors and now describes its product as functional. The new funds will finance a second phase of industrialization at higher volumes, investment in next-generation industrial equipment and cost competitiveness. Management expects to record its first significant fiscal year with an objective of reaching €1 million in revenue this year and anticipates stronger growth from 2020. The company plans international expansion across Europe, Asia and the United States and has outsourced production to a network of Rhône‑Alpes partners while adding hires in business development, industrialization and product development.
