FlexSea produces a durable, fully biodegradable seaweed-derived bioplastic intended for single-use packaging. Its material is compostable at home within eight to twelve weeks and biodegrades in soil and marine environments. The company says its production process avoids strong chemicals and high temperatures, and uses seaweed that grows in 45-day cycles without freshwater, arable land, pesticides, or fertilisers. The fresh £2M equity Seed financing will fund growth across its UK and Portuguese teams and support increased in-house R&D. FlexSea plans to invest heavily in equipment and machinery to speed development; the team comprises ten people who will benefit from the funding. The firm has also received £1.3M in grants from Innovate UK and other institutions, bringing total funding to over £3M to date.
