  • Umiami

    Umiami develops plant-based meat alternatives built around its 'umisation' texturising technology. The company says its products contain under 10 ingredients and are free of texturising agents or controversial additives. It has opened a new factory in Alsace with a capacity of 7,500 tons per production line and plans to grow output to 20,000 tons over time. Umiami is expanding into the US and has appointed John Hatto as Managing Director for North America. The business raised an additional €32.5M as a Series A top-up, bringing the Series A to €59M and total funding to over €100M. The Alsace project and broader industrialisation are supported by the French government's 'France 2030' plan, the BPI (via the SPI fund) and other investors. Umiami has developed a proprietary technology to produce what it says are the world’s first vegan whole‑cuts, including a plant‑based chicken breast made from 100% plant proteins. After two years of R&D the company finalized its first whole chicken breast and reports clients in Northern Europe, North America and South East Asia. Umiami follows a clean‑label approach with products carrying a 'B' Nutri‑Score and reports lower environmental impacts versus conventional meat (25% less energy, 50% less water and land, and roughly half the greenhouse‑gas emissions). The company announced an industrial R&D center near Paris opening in May 2022 to accelerate scale‑up and portfolio expansion. Umiami plans to open a dedicated production plant by 2023 that it says could create up to 200 jobs and produce 15,000 tons of alternative meat per year for global food manufacturing and foodservice customers. It has also announced a partnership with vertically integrated plant‑based marketplace Above Food. Umiami develops a novel manufacturing process that creates thick, whole-piece plant-based meats and fish, allowing control of fiber thickness and direction. Its initial product range includes chicken breasts, cod and nuggets. The company was launched in May 2020 by Tristan Maurel, Martin Habfast and Hugo Dupuis with support from AgroParisTech and the Technical University of Munich. Umiami plans to use the new funds to build a pilot production unit in the Paris region and to continue R&D to expand its product range. The pilot site is slated to start in early 2022 with a capacity of 100 tons per year. Umiami was one of five winners of the Nutrition Lab program in December 2020.

    Founded in 2019, Veragrow uses a proprietary extraction and stabilization process to isolate active compounds generated by more than 25 million earthworms converting agricultural co-products into high-value lombricompost. The resulting plant-based biostimulant formulations have demonstrated strong agronomic performance in over 930 field trials across crops such as wheat, maize, potatoes, sugar beet, oilseed rape, flax, vineyards, and vegetables. By 2025 the company had built a distribution network of 30+ partners in France and initiated field trials in more than 20 countries, including Denmark, Morocco, Brazil, and Senegal. Operating from an integrated R&D, production, and commercialization hub in Val-de-Reuil, Veragrow collaborates with institutions like INRAE, CNRS, UniLaSalle, and GlycoMev. The new capital injection will fund expansion of production capacity, reinforcement of its sales network, and acceleration of R&D, with six additional formulations slated for launch in 2026. Veragrow aims to become a leading global manufacturer of bio-based biostimulants by 2030.

    Biomemory develops DNA-based end-to-end storage solutions, including a recently launched DNA storage card and a planned data‑center appliance. The company uses proprietary synthetic-biology processes to produce long, bio-sourced, biocompatible DNA fragments stored as inert polymers for thousands of years without energy input. Biomemory says its technology offers ultra-high density, longevity, and improved sustainability versus traditional archival media. The company plans to complete first-generation appliance development, accelerate partnerships with industry and cloud providers, and recruit molecular biology and engineering talent. Biomemory aims to scale its molecular data storage to exabyte scale for data center use by 2030. Founded in 2021 as a spinoff of Sorbonne University and CNRS, the company is based in Paris and positions its technology as a complementary, low‑impact archival solution. Biomemory develops a petrol-free DNA synthesis and copy process and DNA data storage solutions that produce long, bio-sourced, biocompatible and bio-secure DNA fragments which can be stored as inert polymers for thousands of years without energy input. The company leverages synthetic biology mechanisms refined over billions of years to assemble DNA and aims to reduce the climate impact of data centers. Biomemory states it currently has the potential to reduce storage costs to $1 per megabyte and expects that further optimization and scaling could bring costs to $1 per terabyte, compared with a ten-year cost of $17 per terabyte for magnetic tape. To achieve this, the company plans to focus on miniaturization, automation and parallelization of an end-to-end integrated and continuous microfluidic DNA assembly device. Biomemory was founded in 2021 and is led by President Erfane Arwani. It has raised seed funding to support technology optimization.

  • Latitude

    Zephyr is a launch vehicle program from Latitude focused on serving small‑satellite (SmallSats) missions. The program aims for a maiden flight in 2025 and plans to reach a 200 kg payload capacity by 2028. Latitude says Zephyr will prioritize production of the first launcher, establishment of an assembly line, and tests on electronics, propulsion, fluid systems, and structures. Operations will include the Titan Research & Tests Center at Paris‑Vatry Airport (EPGAV). The company closed a private Series B to fund these industrial and operational foundations and is continuing to recruit talent to support development and operations. Latitude, previously Venture Orbital Systems, is developing Zephyr, a micro-launcher powered by its in-house fully 3D-printed Navier engine. The team moved into a micro-launcher factory in Reims in October 2021 and signed an MoU with Scotland’s SaxaVord Spaceport to enable future launches. The company ran an engine-igniter test campaign inside its factory and is preparing ground tests of Navier Mark 1 while advancing the design of a mass-production site. Latitude has grown to more than 60 employees after hiring roughly 40 people across engineering and support functions, with additional hires expected before year-end. It reports encouragement and backing from CNES and strong support from the French government for a competitive European micro-launcher sector. Latitude closed a €10 million Series A to accelerate hardware testing and systems, electronics and software development for Zephyr.
