- Focal Point Positioning
Led · Series C · Sep 2022
FocalPoint offers a software-based solution that improves GPS and other global navigation satellite system performance, accuracy and security without requiring chipset upgrades. Its algorithms infer satellite signal directions to boost positioning and detect spoofing while making lower‑battery‑intensive bands more useful. The technology currently works up to 4G and is planned to be extended to 5G and Wi‑Fi; use cases include smartphone navigation, sports tracking, fleet management and broader navigation services. The company says its approach effectively synthesizes expensive military‑grade antenna capabilities in software, lowering cost and complexity for deployments. FocalPoint is a Cambridge University spinout based in Cambridge, and its leadership includes founder and CTO Ramsey Faragher and CEO Scott Pomerantz, who joined last September. It has run trials with partners, including a test with Google’s Android team in London. FocalPoint develops next‑generation positioning technology to address GNSS signal loss caused by obscured, reflected and weak satellite signals in cities and built‑up environments. Its technology aims to reduce positioning and timing errors that affect autonomous vehicles, aircraft, drones and robots. The company also says its proprietary approach can lower battery consumption for industrial IoT devices. FocalPoint's team includes former members of Cambridge University’s Experimental and Theoretical Physics department, BAE Systems and the European Space Agency. The firm won “Europe’s Hottest SpaceTech Start‑up” at the 2020 Europas. Financially, FocalPoint recently closed a £6 million Series B, bringing total capital raised to £10 million.
- Fischer Farms
Led · Equity · Mar 2022
Fischer Farms builds large-scale vertical farms that deliver year-round leafy salads, leafy herbs and other fresh produce from stacked growing systems. Its new Norfolk site will offer 25,000 m2 of growing space (a 4-acre facility said to match the output of roughly 1,000 acres of conventional farmland) and the capacity to supply about 6.5 tonnes of produce to UK supermarkets each day. The farms use up to 98% less water, avoid pesticides/herbicides/insecticides, and are powered by 100% renewable energy to produce consistent, long-lasting British-grown produce. The site is slated to open in winter 2022 and Fischer Farms says the model has no impact on surrounding countryside. Over the next decade the company plans to scale operations and reduce its cost base to enable cost-competitive cultivation of crops such as soya beans, rice, and wheat. Recent funding will also support hiring, training and upskilling of a specialised labour force to operate the technology at scale.

The platform provides global fulfilment services, shipping products to 166 countries and supporting even very small online shops. It currently serves about 5,000 merchants and works with 20 production and fulfilment partners across Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia and Brazil. The company reported 150% growth in the first half of the year. Moteefe is expanding geographically and has used recent funding to push into Australia and South America. It is also launching an enterprise solution to let larger retailers test new product styles, categories and geographies without changing their supply chains. The platform handles design upload, printing, payments, customer service and global fulfillment, and takes a small commission on sales. Moteefe has proprietary production software that centralises orders and routes them to production partners based on location, inventory, capacity, quality and cost, enabling delivery of tens of thousands of products daily with a 1–2 day turnaround time. Unlike marketplace models, users can launch stores on their own domain and retain customer relationships and data. The company plans to expand into Australia and LATAM, launch new products for large retailers, and invest in scaling its operations. Moteefe has raised $12.5M to date; the latest funding will be used to support the stated expansion and product plans. Moteefe (Custom Materials Ltd) is a B2B2C social commerce platform based in London that helps entrepreneurs, brands, clubs and influencers sell customized products through social media. The company provides an end-to-end solution for monetizing social presence, including white-label store technology and custom design tools. Founded in January 2015 by CEO Mathijs Eefting, Moteefe has existing backing from investors such as Ascension Ventures, Livingbridge and Force Over Mass Capital (FOMCAP). The company recently raised an undisclosed funding round with participation from the Unicorn Ascension Fund. Moteefe intends to use the funds to expand globally. Moteefe is a social commerce platform that lets users instantly create and sell custom clothing and merchandise online and via social media without buying stock in advance. Launched in late 2015 and led by CEO Mathijs Eefting, the platform is used extensively in European and Asian territories. In 2016 the site recorded millions of sales, and a large portion of sellers hit the £50K mark in under six months. Moteefe offers 30+ products and a full suite of analytics to evaluate marketing ROI. The company plans to use new funding to grow in Europe and other new markets, release technical features and a wider product offering, and expand marketing resources.
