  • Thermondo

    Participated · Equity · Apr 2015

Founded in 2013 in Berlin, Thermondo began as a digital heating installer and has evolved into a key enabler of Germany’s residential energy transition. The company plans, installs, and services heating systems—especially heat pumps—while also providing in-house financing that lets homeowners pay in affordable monthly instalments. Its workforce exceeds 1,000 employees, including more than 600 permanent craftsmen, and it has installed over 50,000 heating systems to date, with more than 9,000 heat pumps in its fleet. Thermondo recently expanded its capabilities through the April 2024 acquisition of photovoltaic specialist FEBESOL. By bundling installation, financing, and customer service, Thermondo lowers the upfront cost barriers that have slowed adoption of clean-heating technologies. The firm positions itself as both an installer and a financial partner, capturing long-term customer relationships and recurring service revenues. Current growth initiatives include scaling its “flex” instalment-purchase model to reach thousands more households across Germany.

  • Sift

    Participated · Seed · Nov 2013

Sift offers an iPhone and iPad application that automatically scans a user’s inbox for retailer emails, daily deals, and flash-sale notices, then presents that information in a shoppable, magazine-style interface pulling inventory from roughly 3,000 merchants. The service targets women ages 25-45, who constitute about 65% of its user base, and these shoppers typically browse 30-50 stores within the app. On average, Sift surfaces 70–100 promotions per user each week, five times the number they would normally notice in their email inboxes. The company recently added a social feature called Shopping Circles that lets users receive gift and product suggestions from friends or algorithmically generated profiles. Upcoming roadmap items include importing Amazon wish-lists and leveraging purchase history to generate “customers who bought X also bought Y” style recommendations. Longer-term, Sift plans to partner with retailers and media companies to deliver targeted outreach based on demographics and shopping behavior. To date, the company has raised $2 million in seed capital to fund product expansion and user acquisition initiatives.
