- Agtonomy
Participated · Seed · Jan 2022
Agtonomy is a South San Francisco–based software and services company that brings autonomous operation to agriculture, turf, and broader land-maintenance markets. Its physical AI platform is integrated directly into commercial equipment through partnerships with leading original-equipment manufacturers (OEMs), enabling machines to navigate and work autonomously in orchards, vineyards, fields, and managed green spaces. The technology is designed to reduce labor costs, boost safety, and promote more sustainable farming and land-care practices. Agtonomy generates revenue by licensing its software and providing related automation services to OEM partners and end-customers. To date, the company has secured $18 million in Series B funding and counts investors such as DBL Partners, Nuveen, Autotech, Allison Transmission, Rethink Food, and Black Forest Ventures on its cap table. The new capital will be used to enhance the platform’s capabilities, broaden equipment integrations, and scale commercial deployments into adjacent off-road industries.
- Stake
Participated · Seed · Sep 2021
Stake operates a vertically integrated renter platform that now spans apartment search, lease signing, rent payments, and everyday financial wellness. Through its recent acquisition of apartment-locating service UMoveFree and Lighthouse, Stake can surface cash-back deals at the start of a renter’s search and continue rewarding them for on-time rent payments via its FDIC-insured Stake Checking account. The network encompasses more than 550,000 homes nationwide and has delivered tens of millions of dollars in rewards, with UMoveFree alone having served over 5 million renters and paid out $35 million in cash back. Stake reported 4× year-over-year revenue growth in 2025, underscoring accelerating adoption of its platform. Key renter features include immediate cash back at lease signing, automatic credit reporting on rent, and no-fee banking services. For property owners, Stake provides a Loyalty Cloud dashboard and Stake+ incentive engine that align renter savings with property performance. The company plans to use new capital to integrate UMoveFree’s demand engine, expand deal-based rental discovery into additional markets, and accelerate development of its renter savings products.
- Toucan
Participated · Seed · Apr 2021
Toucan builds a Chrome extension that scans webpage text and replaces select words with translations in users' target language to create passive, contextual vocabulary learning. The product supports seven languages (Spanish, Korean, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Japanese) and blends human translators with machine learning and natural language processing to ensure contextual, progressively personalized translations. The company reports about 60,000 monthly active users acquired organically. Toucan operates a freemium model with a Toucan Premium subscription starting at $4.99 per month that increases translation density and offers ad opt-out and sponsorship (“own a word”) features. The startup has a small team (about 12 employees) and plans to grow headcount and expand browser support. Future product plans include internationalizing translations (e.g., Spanish↔English), launching a Safari extension, supporting more browsers and integrating the layer into mobile apps and physical-world experiences. Toucan’s Chrome extension teaches users languages by translating a subset of words on English-language websites into the learner’s target language, with the original English revealed on hover. It currently supports Spanish, French, Italian, German and Portuguese. The product combines natural language processing with teams of translators, including college professors and students, and allows users to report incorrect translations. Toucan is experimenting with engagement and monetization features such as paid "word ownership" sponsorships and a premium subscription that unlocks additional vocabulary while keeping a large portion of the offering free. The company plans to add new languages, launch Firefox and Safari extensions, and explore applying the same approach to other subjects like history or science. Financially, the startup announced a $3 million seed round led by GSV Ventures with participation from several venture firms and strategic angel investors.
