Hygea VCT

9 The Parks, Newton-Le-Willows, Haydock, WA12 0JQ, United Kingdom

Overview

Hygea vct provides investors with access to a diversified portfolio of emerging and established MedTech companies qualifying for investment by a VCT. The board has a strong track record of investing in this area and has a network of personnel with successful P&L responsibility experience in the MedTech sector, both in the UK and internationally. A key feature of the Hygea investment approach is to ensure that portfolio companies are developed as solutions companies i.e. compete on the basis of value provided to customers (not price) by providing better patient outcomes at lower total cost. The effect of this approach is that portfolio companies tend to be focused around medical devices, drug delivery systems, diagnostics and technology based support services - standalone molecule development companies do not generally qualify as solutions companies.

Glide Pharma, based in Oxford, develops the Glide SDI® needle-free delivery system for administering solid-dose formulations subcutaneously. Glide Pharma, based in Abingdon, UK, develops needle-free administration technologies for solid-dose therapeutics and vaccines. Its proprietary Glide SDI® solid dose injector completed a successful clinical proof-of-concept demonstrating avoidance of bruising and bleeding associated with needles. The company is advancing a Glide octreotide programme toward clinical development. It plans to use new funds to progress that programme and to continue scale-up of its commercial manufacturing process.
