  Gabriel, founded in 2020 after its founders returned to Brazil, integrates proprietary smart cameras and computer vision with routine police operations to address public-safety challenges across Latin America. Its cameras, called "Chameleons," are installed in homes and businesses and feed image-derived data to authorities; typical subscribers are private citizens and homeowner associations. The company says it has deployed thousands of smart cameras and now operates the densest camera networks in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Gabriel reports its network helps police identify an average of six crimes per day, a 5x increase over the past 12 months. Over the past year the business moved from a negative gross margin to SaaS-like margins, increased its average ticket and doubled revenue year-over-year. Management plans continued product development to enable self-serve operation by security businesses, governments, agents and third parties, and is prioritizing a São Paulo takeover in 2024 with new-city launches planned for 2025. Gabriel develops an interconnected system of low-cost intelligent cameras using proprietary computer-vision and IoT technology to improve public safety. The company operates its camera park entirely, with devices spread across multiple neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro and plans to launch in new state capitals. Subscribers share images from public-facing cameras with the Gabriel platform, enabling the company to carry out complex investigations and notify police within minutes. Gabriel currently manages five times more cameras than the city's government network and has participated in more than one investigation a day in the last month, including identifications and arrests in Leblon and Ipanema. The startup says its system is resilient by design and aims to make security forces' work more efficient and transparent at no cost to the government. Founded in January 2020, Gabriel plans to build Brazil's largest safety surveillance camera network starting in Rio and expand to other major cities with the new capital.
