Versos is building what it claims is the world’s first marketplace dedicated to providing rights-cleared video datasets for artificial-intelligence developers. Its core product, the forthcoming "Video Intelligence Platform," will allow AI teams to source, license, and manage high-quality video training data from a network of studios. The Saint John–based startup intends to use its marketplace to solve the data-scarcity and licensing challenges that often hamper computer-vision and multimodal model development. Fresh seed capital will be directed toward accelerating product development, expanding studio onboarding processes, and preparing for the platform’s public launch. Prior to the current round, Versos secured CAD 1.5 million via a simple agreement for future equity (SAFE), indicating early investor confidence. Although the company has not disclosed revenue or user metrics, its total external funding now stands at CAD 3.35 million when combining the SAFE and seed rounds.

Island Water Technologies develops off-grid water- and wastewater-treatment systems and a bio-electrode sensor for real-time biological monitoring. The company currently sells two products: Regen, a solar-powered system sized for remote facilities of about 75–250 people, and ClearPod, an efficient septic system for individual households. Regen has three installations to date, and ClearPod is selling in Canada as well as China, Honduras and Kenya, though volumes are below the founders’ targets. IWT has spent about 4.5 years developing its Sentry bio-electrode sensor, which resides in treatment systems and streams biology data to computers and mobile devices. The recent financing will be used to commercialize Sentry and to validate technical milestones over the next 12 months. IWT was accepted into the San Francisco-based Imagine H2O accelerator and plans to use the program to deepen corporate relationships and work toward a Series A. Island Water Technologies develops renewably powered wastewater treatment solutions for remote populations. Its core product is REGEN, a mobile solar-powered, modular wastewater treatment system with low energy requirements that can be completely powered by renewable energy. The company plans to commercialize REGEN using the $250k venture capital investment from Innovacorp. REGEN systems can be remotely monitored in real time for maintenance and compliance and are targeted at military bases, disaster relief operations, mining camps and off-grid communities. IWT has also developed ClearPod, a drop-in device to speed up bio-treatment of septic tanks, and Sentry, a microbe-based sensor that reports biological-process status to the cloud. R&D is conducted in partnership with Dalhousie University, and the company graduated from Ecofuel, an accelerator run by Cycle Capital. The company is led by co-founder and CEO Patrick Kiely.

Coloursmith develops proprietary optical filtering technology designed specifically for eyeglass and contact lenses, enabling colour enhancement and hazardous-light protection where few materials are currently compatible with ophthalmic lenses. Coloursmith was founded in 2018 by Gabrielle Masone and is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It completed an oversubscribed $600,000 CDN pre-seed in June 2019 and an oversubscribed $2,000,000 CDN seed in July 2021. Funds from the seed round will be used to progress products to the global marketplace and grow the Atlantic Canadian team; the broader eyewear market was valued at $147.60 billion USD in 2020, indicating a sizable commercial opportunity. Coloursmith Labs develops a platform to create clinically beneficial optical filters for contact lenses. Its early-stage product pipeline includes filters to enhance color vision for the color blind and to protect eyes from harmful blue light. The company has built a prototype and has filed a patent related to its technology. Coloursmith is part of the Emera ideaHUB incubator at Dalhousie University and is led by CEO Gabrielle Masone. The team plans to use new funding to ramp up research capacity and advance development of its lens-enhancing filters. Coloursmith highlights interest from contact lens manufacturers and aims to address challenging vision problems within the contact lens market.
