Overview

We want to build a world in which all humans can thrive. We believe that capital and business can solve the world’s grand challenges. Our impact goals are to make impact investing mainstream and to steward exponential technologies to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We invest in and support early stage impact tech startups, funds and projects, with a mission to solve the world’s most pressing problems through the use of exponential technologies. We believe that all investing needs to be impact investing. To meet our vision we lead by example and are creating a movement that other investors are following. Through our investment vehicles (Accelerators and Fund), Katapult Future Fest and Katapult Foundation we are building the impact investing field and attracting new capital. We are working on catalyzing HNWI, family offices and foundation capital into impact investing by both giving them opportunities to co-invest and by offering support and education. An important part of our thesis is not only finding businesses that are solving the world’s greatest challenges but also how we can contribute as an impact investor to stewarding technologies as a force for good. Technology can be a catalyst for good but also cause great harm. As the world adopts ever more transformative tech, we believe that maximizing the chance of good outcomes requires responsible stewardship and clear intentionality. We believe that the earlier in the company life-cycle this is made explicit, the greater the chance of positive impact. Active engagement and leveraging all aspects of Katapult supports our investees and cements a multi-stakeholder approach to decision making. We will set the standard for how to operate at the intersection of impact and tech. Through our focus on Ocean, Climate and Africa we take a holistic approach to solving society’s largest challenges. By promoting healthy oceans, a stable climate and sustainable food systems we drive towards building a thriving world for all.

    Brineworks is an Amsterdam-based climate-tech company founded in 2023 by Gudfinnur Sveinsson and electrochemist Dr. Joseph Perryman. Its patented electrolyser captures CO₂ directly from the air while simultaneously generating substantial volumes of hydrogen, creating a cost-effective feedstock pair for sustainable aviation fuel and e-methanol. The system is designed to run intermittently, matching the variable output of wind and solar power without performance loss, which lowers operating costs and aligns with the falling price of renewable energy. This flexibility, combined with inexpensive materials, targets the current bottleneck in scaling e-fuels for hard-to-abate sectors like aviation and shipping. Aviation accounts for roughly 2.5 % and shipping over 3 % of global CO₂ emissions, providing a large market need for Brineworks’ solution. The company plans to scale its technology to pilot level with the new capital and aims for commercial readiness by late 2026. No revenue or user metrics have been disclosed.

  • Bedrock Ocean Exploration

    Bedrock Ocean develops and builds autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and accompanying software to map the ocean floor using sonar and magnetic sensors. Its AUVs run up to 12 hours on lithium-ion batteries, sail five to 10 meters above the seafloor, and store and partially process data on board before surfacing to transmit via Wi‑Fi. Two AUVs can cover the same ground as one traditional mapping ship, and a 40-foot ship could carry 10–12 AUVs; Bedrock says its vehicles cost less than $1 million apiece. The company’s approach uses lower-power, higher-frequency sonar deployed closer to the seafloor, which it says reduces harm to marine mammals. Bedrock can place items on the seafloor with roughly one- to two-meter accuracy, and notes that not all surveys require sub-meter precision. Over the last two quarters the startup has performed paid survey work for offshore wind, oil and gas, and environmental assessments, and its rapid-assessment capability has drawn interest from the U.S. Navy. Bedrock provides high-resolution seafloor maps collected by its purpose-built autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) and delivered via Mosaic, a cloud-native web service that handles analysis and hosting. The company designed its AUV to operate within 50–75 meters of the seabed using high-frequency sonar to produce more detailed imagery while minimizing harm to marine life. Mosaic is format-agnostic and launches with a promotion of 50 GB of free storage to drive adoption and aggregate previously hard-to-use survey data. Bedrock positions its offering as faster, cheaper, safer, and operationally more flexible than traditional crewed survey ships, enabling launch from a pier or beach without a boat. The product targets near-shore markets tied to the growing offshore wind and coastal monitoring demand where cloud handoff is feasible. Leadership says the long-term ambition is to enable near-regular mapping of the ocean, aiming ultimately to survey the whole ocean on a yearly basis.

    Triton Anchor develops high‑uplift-capacity anchoring systems designed for offshore wind and other offshore industries. The company focuses on scalable, sustainable anchoring solutions to lower costs and support global renewable energy projects. Triton Anchor has established a European subsidiary, Triton Anchor Europe (TAE), with planned operations in Aberdeen and Edinburgh to accelerate market entry in Europe. The company completed a $2.2M Seed financing and was selected for $3.5M in non‑dilutive grant funding to drive growth initiatives and market entry. Triton Anchor reports a $1.5 billion pipeline of global projects, including planned anchor installations in Scotland, Holland, and Portugal. Leadership expansion is underway, with an industry veteran from a global offshore wind leader to be announced in early Q1 2025.

  • Sparxell

    Sparxell is a University of Cambridge spin-out that engineers bioinspired colour materials made entirely from cellulose sourced from wood pulp. By assembling cellulose crystals into precise microstructures, the company creates structural colours that reflect specific wavelengths of light, mimicking the vivid hues found in butterfly wings. Its platform targets fashion, textiles and other industries looking to replace petroleum-based chemicals, synthetic dyes, heavy metals and mineral pigments with environmentally safer alternatives. The materials are fully bio-based, non-toxic and biodegradable, meeting rising sustainability and regulatory requirements in Europe. Sparxell is currently operating at pilot-scale manufacturing and plans to reach industrial-scale production by 2026. The company has attracted strategic interest from consumer brands seeking high-performance, sustainable colour solutions. A recent €4.2 million pre-Series A financing provides the capital to accelerate scale-up and commercialization efforts.

  • Syrenna

    Syrenna has developed the WaterDrone, a sealed robotic platform that controls its depth with a swim-bladder and maintains geographic position via a proprietary tether to provide persistent, near–real-time subsea sensing. The device carries sensors for temperature, salinity, microplastics and other marine metrics, runs on a battery rated for a full year of operation, and is being developed to recharge at the surface and transmit data via Iridium satellites. Syrenna completed a next-generation hardware version and has run pilots in Oslofjord and offshore tests to 180 meters, with longer-term trials underway. The company plans to sell robots directly to customers and to release some collected data publicly through partners such as Hub Ocean. Operating since 2022 out of Oslo, Syrenna has been engineering‑centric in hiring and is now expanding toward productization and full‑stack developer hiring to improve visualizations and BI integration.
