The company is targeting U.S. Space Force customers and is preparing another Mira launch expected before the end of the year after a prior flight encountered a navigation-related propellant issue. Impulse recently opened an office in Colorado as it expands its engineering team and plans to hire up to 200 new employees with proceeds from its Series D. The company’s software teams use AI coding tools, though leadership has expressed skepticism about applying current deep learning models to hardware design.

Thea Energy builds pixel-inspired rectangular magnets and software to generate and fine-tune stellarator magnetic fields, using many smaller planar coils to shape plasma confinement. The company says its approach lets software control arrays of regular magnets to create complex stellarator fields, and it has built dozens of full-scale magnet iterations in its Jersey City lab. Thea originally spun out of the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and has iterated its design to include a set of larger magnets alongside more than 300 smaller coils that fine-tune the plasma. With $130 million in total private funding after the new Series B, Thea is scaling magnet manufacturing and plans to begin construction of its Eos demonstration reactor next year. The company aims to complete Eos by 2030 and bring a commercial device, Helios, online in 2034.

Lace has developed a lithography approach that uses a helium atom beam roughly 0.1 nanometer wide to pattern semiconductor features at near-atomic resolution. The company says its method could enable chip features about 10 times smaller than current light-based lithography, potentially expanding the roadmap for advanced AI chips. Lace has built prototype systems and presented its research at a scientific lithography summit. The firm aims to have a test tool operating in a pilot fab around 2029 as it advances development. Lace is Bergen-headquartered and is backed by Microsoft through its venture arm M12. The company declined to disclose its valuation while raising capital, most recently a $40 million Series A led by Atomico with several strategic investors.

Founded in 2018 by former SpaceX engineers Erik Palitsch and Thomas Ronacher, Freeform has built a proprietary metal additive-manufacturing system that fuses powdered metals with arrays of high-power lasers. Its current GoldenEye machine uses 18 lasers, while the forthcoming Skyfall platform will deploy hundreds of lasers to print thousands of kilograms of parts per day. The system is deeply integrated with real-time physics simulations and sensor feedback, leveraging on-premise Nvidia H200 GPU clusters to optimize every print layer and gather extensive process data. This AI-native approach is intended to raise throughput and part quality while lowering cost, enabling manufacturing-as-a-service for aerospace, defense and other mission-critical sectors. Although specific customers are undisclosed, the company says it is already shipping hundreds of certified parts and holds a sizable contract backlog. With fresh capital, Freeform plans to expand its facility, upgrade to Skyfall, and hire roughly 100 employees. PitchBook pegs the post-financing valuation at $179 million, though the company has not confirmed that figure.
