Founded in 2024 by former SpaceX engineers Noah Schochet and Noah McGuinness, TerraFirma builds a full-stack platform that combines AI-enabled pre-construction software, a remote command-and-control center, and retrofitted semi-autonomous heavy machinery for earthworks and site operations. The company's systems let skilled operators orchestrate fleets from screens, which TerraFirma says can make each operator up to 300% more effective. TerraFirma is executing commercial projects including site preparation, excavation, and grading for a Starbucks in North Austin, a sports arena in Spicewood, and a power substation in New Braunfels, and it is working with the U.S. government on international infrastructure and logistics projects. The company is vertically integrated, building and using its own robotics and software in the field while keeping operators at the center. TerraFirma has stated a long-term ambition to extend its construction technology to lunar and Martian projects as well as scale on Earth. Financially, TerraFirma announced approximately $115 million in new capital, including a $100 million Series A, to expand engineering, manufacturing, operations, and continued development of its semi-autonomous equipment.

Impulse Space, founded by SpaceX engine guru Tom Mueller, develops highly maneuverable spacecraft and propulsion systems for in-space mobility. Its product portfolio includes Mira, a maneuverable platform that has flown at least three missions, and Helios, a vehicle designed to move satellites rapidly to higher orbits. The company is targeting U.S. Space Force customers and is preparing another Mira launch expected before the end of the year after a prior flight encountered a navigation-related propellant issue. Impulse recently opened an office in Colorado as it expands its engineering team and plans to hire up to 200 new employees with proceeds from its Series D. The company’s software teams use AI coding tools, though leadership has expressed skepticism about applying current deep learning models to hardware design.
