Overview

The National Research and Development Centre is an executive agency of the Minister of Science and Higher Education. It was established in summer 2007 as a unit realizing the tasks of scientific, scientific-technical and innovation policy. At the time of inception was the first unit of this type, created as a platform for effective dialogue between science and business environment. Currently it operates under the Act of 30 April 2010 by the National Centre for Research and Development (Dz. U. 2010, No. 96 item. 616). Introduced in autumn 2010 reform of the science center has allowed greater freedom in disposing financial resources, within the framework of the strategic research agenda. An additional 1 September 2011, NRDC has expanded the scope of its activities with new initiatives and opportunities. Taking over from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education function of the Intermediate in three operational programs: Human Capital, Innovative Economy and Infrastructure and Environment, has become one of the largest centers supporting innovation in Poland. The Centre is funded by the Treasury and European Union funds.

    Founded in 2017 by aerospace engineers and competitive aeromodellers, FlyFocus develops a range of unmanned aerial systems, avionics and counter-drone technologies for defence and government customers. Its portfolio includes intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance UAVs, loitering systems, counter-drone solutions and a tethered drone platform already deployed by institutional users. All hardware is built with components sourced solely from NATO-aligned suppliers to ensure supply-chain transparency and compliance with European defence procurement rules. FlyFocus also owns its entire software stack—covering flight control, mission planning and ground control—which allows rapid, operator-driven upgrades. After eight years of self-funded growth, the company has secured its first external capital to scale production. The new funds will finance a dedicated manufacturing facility in Poland slated for operation in the second half of 2026, boost international sales efforts and support R&D, including the launch of two new UAV platforms later this year.

    DBR77 Robotics is a Polish industrialtech startup whose platform integrates IoT sensors, digital twin technology, and a robotics marketplace to optimize manufacturing and logistics operations. The product enables real-time data collection, process simulation, and automation, combining a digital twin and IoT system delivered via SaaS subscriptions. Its marketplace connects manufacturers with robotics suppliers such as Fanuc, KUKA, Yaskawa, ABB, and Mitsubishi Electric and generates commission revenue. The company combines subscription SaaS fees with marketplace commissions as its business model. DBR77 closed a €3.5M Seed round to support international growth and technology development. The proceeds will fund a "GO GLOBAL" strategy targeting Western Europe and the U.S., enhancing AI capabilities, integrating with IoT systems, and commercialising the Digital Twin. The company has established subsidiaries in Berlin and Pittsburgh to spearhead expansion in the DACH region and North America.

    Cardiomatics provides a cloud-based AI tool that automates ECG interpretation and generates reports in minutes, detecting roughly 20 heart abnormalities. The startup announced a $3.2M seed raise (plus a $1M non-equity grant) to expand use of its ECG-reading automation technology. Its software integrates with more than 25 ECG monitoring devices and is used by over 700 customers across 10+ countries, having commercially analysed more than 3 million hours of ECG signals. The company says its development dataset contains over 10 billion heartbeats from approximately 100,000 patients, with 90% of data used for training and 10% for validation and monthly algorithm checks; clients also check performance in clinical practice. Cardiomatics received European medical device certification in 2018 and says it closely monitors evolving EU medical-device and AI regulations. It plans to use the seed proceeds for product development, scaling its AI technology, expanding in existing markets and preparing to enter new markets, including pursuing FDA certification and US entry.

    Pure Biologics is a Wrocław-based biotech startup focused on early-stage development of drug candidates, diagnostic tools and medical devices. The company uses its PureSelect platform to select new antibodies and is developing an immuno-oncological drug (PureBIKE) targeting triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). PureBIKE aims to produce an antibody fragment that activates natural killer immune cells to inhibit tumour growth and metastases. TNBC is a heterogeneous, aggressive form of breast cancer that accounts for roughly 12–17% of cases and currently lacks targeted therapies, leaving chemotherapy as the main option. Pure Biologics says PureBIKE is the third drug project in its pipeline and plans to start one or two more projects in the coming quarters. Financially, the company announced a €6.7 million funding award for PureBIKE and had previously raised €2.3 million from investors earlier this year.

    Orion Biotechnology Canada Ltd. is a clinical-stage company that uses a proprietary discovery platform to design highly potent drugs against difficult G-Protein-Coupled Receptor (GPCR) targets. Its lead candidate, OB-002, is a first-in-class chemokine analog that functions as a best-in-class CCR5 antagonist and shows promise across oncology, neuroinflammation, and other serious diseases. The firm collaborates with global institutions and leverages its GPCR expertise to unlock drug targets that have resisted traditional modalities. Current development work focuses on expanding translational research for OB-002, including blood–brain barrier penetration studies. Orion plans to progress OB-002 further into clinical trials while using its platform to generate additional GPCR-focused candidates. Although no revenue or user metrics are disclosed, the company continues to secure non-dilutive and strategic financing to advance its pipeline.
