- Safely You
Participated · Series C · Jan 2025
SafelyYou sells an ambient, AI-powered camera-and-sensor platform that detects when residents might be falling and triggers text and phone alerts to on-call staff. The system does not require wearables and is paired with a remote clinical team that documents falls, reviews videos, conducts root-cause analyses, and issues recommendations. The clinical team has analyzed more than 300,000 on-the-ground events to help reduce future falls. Founder George Netscher says the technology originated in 2015 as part of his doctoral research and the company’s mission is to ensure the highest-quality care for seniors. SafelyYou nearly shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic but survived and now serves nearly 1,000 senior living communities. The company employs roughly 100 people and is San Francisco-based; new capital will support continued expansion. SafelyYou has developed a remote care platform combining real-time AI video technology with a 24/7 remote clinical team to detect and address resident falls. SafelyYou develops an AI-enabled fall management platform that detects falls, analyzes patterns, and pairs technology with professional caregiver intervention to prevent future incidents for seniors and people with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or cognitive impairment. The system combines video review and AI-augmented pattern recognition, reviewing over 1,500 videos of on-the-ground events per month to generate personalized care plans. SafelyYou’s platform is reported to reduce falls by 40% and ER visits from falls by 80%, and a Belmont Village case study found fall-driven ER visits fell to 4% versus an industry average of 17–25%. Beyond detection and prevention, the technology assists caregivers with medication adherence, behavioral monitoring, false-alarm management, memory issues, and occupational therapy support. The company plans to expand availability of its fall-management technology to a wider range of older adults and scale deployments in senior-care facilities. Financially, SafelyYou closed a $30 million Series B in the announced round, bringing its total venture funding to approximately $70 million. SafelyYou offers an AI-enabled fall detection and prevention system specifically designed for memory care and residents with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Its solution uses cameras that only activate when a fall is detected to protect privacy and limit liability. The platform provides post-fall video review to support unwitnessed falls, assist ER decision making, and perform root cause analysis to inform fall prevention. SafelyYou originated in 2015 as the doctoral research of CEO George Netscher at the UC Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research Lab. The system is already deployed in numerous communities in North America. The company intends to use its new funding to scale its assisted living and skilled nursing business.
