- Magdrive
Participated · Seed · Feb 2025
Magdrive develops advanced electric propulsion thrusters that use metal propellant and internal energy to produce high-energy plasma, yielding higher thrust than similar-sized electric systems. Their compact thrusters target satellite servicing, in-space transportation, and deep-space exploration. The company launched its first mission in January 2023 and is preparing an in-orbit test of the Magdrive Rogue thruster with D-Orbit scheduled for June 2025. Magdrive is also developing a SuperMagdrive thruster designed to be refuelled with metal found in space to enable sustainable deep-space missions. The $10.5M seed funding will support continued R&D, construction of a UK manufacturing facility, and establishment of a US office. CEO Mark Stokes and investors characterize the technology as enabling improved manoeuvrability, longevity, and new capabilities for mega-constellations, asteroid mining, and in-space servicing. Magdrive is developing a next-generation plasma propulsion system for small satellites that the company says delivers both high thrust and high efficiency, a claimed generational leap over existing electric thrusters. The engine is intended to enable fast interplanetary travel, operations in very low Earth orbit, repeated fast maneuvers, and make orbital manufacturing more feasible. Co-founders Dr Thomas Clayson (a plasma physicist) and Mark Stokes (a mechanical engineer from Imperial College London) built an initial small-scale thruster prototype. Magdrive is based at the European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre in Harwell, Oxford. The startup faces competitors working on electric and miniaturized thrusters—Busek, Exotrail, Apollo Fusion, Enpulsion and NanoAvionics—while large aerospace firms continue to improve chemical propulsion. The company plans to scale the technology to power larger, potentially manned spacecraft for destinations such as the Moon and Mars. Magdrive recently closed seed funding to advance development and commercialization.
- Biorce
Participated · Equity · Nov 2024
Biorce develops Aika, an AI-native platform trained on roughly one million historical clinical trials to predict risks, reduce errors, and minimize costly protocol amendments. By shortening preparation timelines and limiting amendments that can each add €500,000–€1 million and six weeks of delay, the company aims to make clinical research faster, more reliable, and more accessible. Aika is already used in oncology, neurology, and rare-disease studies and is intentionally therapy-agnostic so it can scale across diverse programmes. Backed by more than $60 million in total funding, Biorce plans to grow its workforce and open a development and R&D hub in Austin, Texas to support U.S. customers. The roadmap through early 2026 includes expanding Aika’s protocol-intelligence engine and rolling out new modules for contract management, negotiation, budget planning, and operational execution. These enhancements are designed to further improve trial efficiency and accelerate patient access to new therapies.
- MixRift
Led · Seed · Aug 2024
MixRift develops mixed reality casual games designed to be easy to pick up while delivering deep immersion. The team emphasizes rapid prototyping and focusing on game mechanics rather than single titles to quickly identify what resonates with players. Founders Bobby Voicu (CEO), David Pripas (CPO) and Andrei Vaduva (CTO) lead the company. MixRift plans to use the new funding to accelerate development and publish additional titles, with further releases expected later in 2024. The company believes rising adoption of headsets such as Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro creates a growing addressable market, despite current scarcity of MR content. Financially, MixRift has secured a $1.6M Pre-Seed investment to support these plans.
- JULIENNE BRUNO
Participated · Seed · Nov 2022
Julienne Bruno is a London-based plant‑based food developer founded in late 2020 by Pointr co-founder Axel Katalan. The company positions itself as offering “a different perspective on plant‑based food,” creating familiar-but-new products prized for quality rather than as direct imitations. Its Collection 01 series comprises dairy‑free, cheese‑like products including Burrella, Crematta and Superstraccia. The team includes high-profile culinary and food‑service figures such as Michelin‑star winner Albert Adria, board advisor Alan Yau MBE, Chi San and Sunjiv Shah. Julienne Bruno closed a £5 million seed round to support continued growth and planned partnerships with UK nationwide retailers including Selfridges London, Holland & Barrett and Whole Foods Market.
- Emitwise
Participated · Series A · Mar 2022
Emitwise is a London-based startup that provides an AI-driven carbon management platform to automatically measure, report and reduce companies' carbon footprints across operations and supply chains. The platform is aimed at helping businesses future-proof for a zero-carbon world through automated carbon accounting. Leadership includes CEO and Co-Founder Mauro Cozzi and newly appointed COO Steve Bianchi. The company plans to use its new funding to further develop its AI-driven carbon accounting software and deepen partnerships with the manufacturing sector. Emitwise closed a $10M Series A round in March 2022 to support those product and commercial initiatives. Emitwise offers an AI platform that measures greenhouse gas emissions across companies and their supply chains. Its product automates carbon accounting, identifies emissions hotspots, integrates with ERP systems, and claims compliance with disclosure frameworks such as CDP, GHG and TCFD. The company positions its software as providing a clear line of sight to supply chain carbon to enable mitigation strategies and incentives. CEO Mauro Cozzi said Emitwise aims to help firms realize the economic upsides of a net-zero-aligned model. Emitwise competes with other startups in the space, including Watersheds and Plan A. Financially, Emitwise has raised a total of $6.6M in seed funding after a $3.2M addition. Emitwise is a U.K.-based tech startup that deploys artificial intelligence to help companies monitor, measure and report their carbon footprints. Its platform ingests data from available sources, including accounting systems, enterprise resource management, travel and workers' commutes, and analyzes that data to surface emissions hotspots. The system produces quick, comprehensive reports and enables companies to set targets and plan carbon-reduction actions. Emitwise advocates that improved carbon governance can reduce costs (through lower energy use and supplier selection) and create revenue opportunities by appealing to sustainability-minded consumers. The company recommends a step-by-step approach to supply-chain accounting, prioritizing key suppliers and modelling the remainder. At the time of the article Emitwise had two customers, Spendesk and Seed. It has raised funding to bring its offering to market.
