  • Proxima Fusion

    Participated · Series A · Jul 2026

Proxima Fusion is Europe’s leading stellarator company and the first spin-out from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, developing commercial fusion power plants using the QI-HTS stellarator concept. The company is building Alpha, a net-energy stellarator demonstrator targeted for the early 2030s, and plans a follow-on commercial plant called Stellaris later in the decade. Proxima leads the Alpha project in partnership with the state of Bavaria, the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics and industrial partners including RWE, supported by an Alpha Alliance of more than 50 companies. Headquartered in Munich with offices in Zurich and Oxford, Proxima employs around 200 people across engineering, science and operations. Financially, Proxima has secured more than €650 million in funding to date, including about €95 million in public grants, and plans to expand engineering, manufacturing and magnet production capabilities as it advances toward demonstrator completion.

  • Focused Energy

    Led · Series A · Jun 2026

Focused Energy develops laser-based fusion technology and was founded in 2021 as a spin-off of Technical University Darmstadt. Headquartered in Darmstadt, the company also maintains offices in Berlin, Austin, and San Francisco. It positions itself as a world-leading laser fusion company and aims to translate scientific fusion advances into industrial value creation. The company recently raised $240 million in a Series A—the largest fully secured Series A in the fusion industry—to accelerate system development. Focused Energy plans to deploy the capital at the former RWE power plant site in Biblis, Hesse, using the site’s infrastructure and RWE’s expertise to establish a blueprint for industrial laser fusion. Leadership has stated this financing will help the company expand its lead in laser fusion and commit to long-term industrial implementation in Europe.

  • Voltpost

    Led · Seed · Jul 2023

Voltpost retrofits existing lampposts into a modular, upgradable Level 2 EV charging platform designed for rapid, low‑cost curbside and parking lot deployments. The system is powered by a mobile app and emphasizes minimal installation time, no trenching, and a small physical footprint. Voltpost positions its product to generate new municipal revenue streams, provide infrastructure data for city planning, and accelerate EV adoption—particularly in underserved urban areas. The company highlights the ability to install chargers in about an hour, enabling faster rollout compared with traditional curbside solutions. Voltpost has run demonstrations with drivers, OEMs, and government agencies, maintains a demo unit at Newlab at Michigan Central, and participated in Plug and Play Detroit Mobility and associated pitch events. Its recent grant awards from Michigan programs support deployments in the Detroit metro area and broader Michigan market expansion. Voltpost designs sleeve-mounted chargers that tap into existing lamppost electrical feeds and dispense a 20-foot retractable cable from about eight feet, with the plug docked below for easy access. Each charger delivers 7.6 kilowatts and a single post can support two chargers; current hardware fits metal posts only. The team built its own equipment after customer discovery with city agencies and utilities found bring-your-own-plug designs failed UL requirements and drivers preferred integrated cables. Voltpost plans to sell to cities, utilities and private hosts, bundling installation, maintenance and operations into an annual fee while leaving per-session pricing to the host. The company is in talks with municipal, utility and private partners across the U.S. and hopes to launch initial pilots with one partner in each sector. Voltpost recently closed seed financing and intends to raise a Series A to scale after early deployments.
