Overview

The Citizenship Fund started out when the founders of the company discovered in their previous positions that a promising Finnish growth company will spend a great deal of time and energy in arranging financing. A good business idea and a team with excellent team could take months in financial negotiations and the outcome could be a return to the start-up. At the same time, investors often wanted new types of higher potential investments alongside traditional alternatives. These two challenges were possible by removing the promising growth companies as investors, even for non-traditional venture capital investors. Citizenship wanted to create a service in which the company would be able to capitalize on business quickly and flexibly, but the decision-making business would be left to the company itself. From today's point of view, Springvest's goal is that an increasing number of Finnish investors can get involved in the story of Finnish growth companies and potential success.

  • ReOrbit

    ReOrbit develops the OrbitCloud private satellite network that links drones and handheld devices directly to satellites using 3GPP Non-Terrestrial Network standards while performing AI inference on board. The company’s architecture uses processors and fast intersatellite links to share tasks for reliability, aiming to deliver processed intelligence directly to devices without routing data via ground stations. ReOrbit targets military and industrial users that require communications independent of terrestrial infrastructure. Founded in 2019 and based in Helsinki, the company has about 80–90 employees and plans to expand to 200–250 staff by the end of 2026. In March 2026 ReOrbit signed a €150 million asset-financing deal with SLI for two GEO satellites, with first delivery slated for 2029. The firm is pursuing a larger programme expected to exceed €40 million and has set a goal of achieving €1 billion in sales within four years.

  • CurifyLabs

    Founded in 2021, CurifyLabs develops an automated Compounding System Solution that combines proprietary software, GMP-manufactured excipient bases and 3D printing to prepare personalised medications. Its platform includes integrated quality-control features and aims to improve consistency, precision and speed versus manual pharmacy compounding. CurifyLabs’ technology is used by pharmacies in 21 US states and across Europe. The company plans to expand its US operations and invest in its supply chain and customer support as it scales. CurifyLabs is actively developing products on its platform, including the PharmaPrinter Aurum, and recently raised €12 million in a Series A to support these efforts.

  • Volare

    Volare converts food-industry byproducts into high-value insect protein, oil and fertiliser at industrial scale using the black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) and a proprietary zero-waste, fossil-free process. Its ingredients are targeted at aquafeed, pet food and poultry feed, and the company has an offtake agreement with Skretting. Volare is piloting insect-fed rainbow trout via a 150,000 kg collaboration with Alltech Fennoaqua, Kalankasvatus Vääräniemi and Kalavapriikki. The company says integrated technologies deliver a 30% reduction in processing energy use and aim to cut hygienisation energy use by 50%, positioning the process as highly energy-efficient. Volare will begin building its first industrial plant, Volare 01, in Finland in 2025; the facility is expected to produce protein equivalent to 200 million Baltic herrings annually (about 18% of Finland’s commercial fish catch in protein terms). Volare is a spinoff from VTT that produces high-quality proteins and oils by growing black soldier flies on non-edible parts of grains and other food-production side streams. The company’s technological solution covers rearing the insects and processing them into industry-compatible end products, with a negligible environmental load compared with traditional alternatives. Volare already has a pilot plant up and running and is aiming to start construction of a commercial-scale production plant in 2023, with plans to build several plants in Europe each year. Management includes co-founders CEO Tuure Parviainen and CTO Matti Tähtinen and newly named COO Jarna Hyvönen. The company says one commercial plant can feed 4.75 million salmon per year; it currently employs six people and plans to grow to ten this year. Volare has raised €0.7M in funding from Maki.vc to support its planned rapid growth.

  • Desentum

    Desentum’s lead product candidate is DM-101PX, a modified birch pollen hypoallergen formulated for subcutaneous injection with controlled release and reduced allergenicity. DM-101PX is being evaluated in a clinical study in Canada that tests safety and tolerability of 10 weekly doses and assesses effects on allergic symptoms using controlled birch pollen exposure, with preliminary results described as promising. The company aims to reduce the number of required injections for birch pollen treatment while maintaining effectiveness. Desentum is also developing preclinical hypoallergen candidates targeting peanut and grass pollen allergies and plans to apply the same design approach across other allergens. The firm is a spin-off from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd and was founded in 2011. It has previously received a Horizon 2020 SME instrument grant and earlier funding from Springvest. Desentum develops novel immunotherapeutic hypoallergens—biotechnologically produced, modified allergen proteins—aimed at improving the efficacy of allergen immunotherapy and shortening treatment time. Its lead candidate, birch pollen hypoallergen DM-101, has completed a First-in-Human clinical study and was found to be safe and well tolerated at the highest tested dosing regimens. Immunological marker results from that study indicated a favorable change in markers associated with a protective response. The company intends to use the newly raised funds to support further clinical development, R&D of new hypoallergens, and business development. Desentum recently raised €8M in funding to advance these programs. The company is led by CEO Pekka Mattila and was founded in 2011 as a spin-off from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd.

  • Kuva Space

    Kuva Space builds a patented hyperspectral camera mounted on microsatellites and an AI-driven analytics platform that delivers real-time environmental insights. Its technology can distinguish nearly any material on Earth to monitor crop health, biodiversity, soil, marine conditions, and pollutants. The company plans to double its team, expand to the US market, launch its AI analytics platform, and further develop its space hardware and services. Kuva Space bills its solution via a subscription model and has secured a €5 million commercial contract from the European Commission as the sole hyperspectral data provider for the Copernicus programme. It is a NATO Arctic Challenge Innovation winner. Operationally, Kuva Space already has three satellites in orbit, will launch two more (including Hyperfield-1 in June 2024), and is planning a constellation of up to 100 satellites by 2030. Kuva Space (formerly Reaktor Space Lab) builds space-borne hyperspectral camera technology combined with AI to deliver global, daily, actionable data on ecological assets. Its small, high-performance sensors are designed to enable a cost-efficient constellation of tens of satellites, making affordable data available even to developing countries. The company offers situational awareness on agricultural policies and emissions, verification tools for bioasset carbon sequestration methods, and services intended to prevent biodiversity loss. Kuva Space says its agriculture solutions can improve crop yields up to 30% while decreasing required inputs by 15%. Future plans described in the articles include building and launching the first commercial satellites and developing the service pipeline while advancing business development. The company is positioned as a global source for actionable green data to support sustainable farming and carbon-binding decisions.
