  • Vast

    Participated · Series A · Mar 2026

Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Long Beach, California, Vast is building the Haven line of modular commercial space stations designed for microgravity research, in-space manufacturing, and astronaut habitation. The company flew its Haven Demo spacecraft in 2025 to validate key technologies and is currently integrating Haven-1, slated to launch in 2027 as the world’s first commercial space station. A larger Haven-2 platform is planned to help replace the International Space Station around 2030, and Vast has also secured a private astronaut mission to the ISS through NASA. Vast pursues a vertically integrated manufacturing model that it claims has cut primary structure costs by roughly 10× compared with traditional station programs. Its roadmap ultimately includes habitats for lunar and Martian applications, aligning with a vision of enabling billions of people to live and work in space. Including the latest round, more than $1 billion has been invested in the company’s technology and facilities, providing significant capital to scale engineering, expand infrastructure, and grow headcount.

  • Overview Energy

    Participated · Equity · Dec 2025

Overview Energy is a startup working to harvest sunlight in space and transmit it to Earth, enabling solar farms to deliver power both day and night. The company plans to deploy large solar arrays in geosynchronous orbit (~22,000 miles up) that convert sunlight into infrared laser beams aimed at ground-based receivers co-located with existing solar facilities. A recent airborne test saw the system successfully send power across 5 km from a light aircraft to a ground receiver, demonstrating proof of concept. Future milestones include launching a demonstration satellite to low Earth orbit in 2028 and beginning megawatt-scale power delivery from geosynchronous orbit by 2030. By re-using existing solar farms, Overview hopes to sidestep the need for bespoke ground stations and reduce public-safety concerns associated with high-power beams. The company faces competition from firms pursuing microwave-based wireless power as well as falling grid-scale battery costs. Overview has raised $20 million so far to fund technology development, backed by Aurelia Institute, Earthrise Ventures, Engine Ventures, EQT Foundation, Lowercarbon Capital, and Prime Movers Lab.

  • Argo Space

    Participated · Equity · Apr 2023

Argo Space is developing a reusable orbital transfer vehicle called the Argonaut that can be refueled with water harvested from the Moon. The Argonaut is designed to provide high delta‑V using a water plasma thruster to access MEO, GEO and cislunar space and enable repeatable logistics missions. The company also developed a method to extract water from lunar regolith and validated extraction on simulated regolith at concentrations as low as 1 part per thousand. Near‑term plans include refueling Argonauts with water launched from Earth and retrieved by low‑Earth‑orbit depots while lunar export capabilities mature. Argo raised $7.9M in the recent round led by Crosslink Capital and previously closed a $2M pre‑seed last April; the new funding will primarily support Argonaut development and a sub‑scale demo slated for Q4 next year. The startup was founded by three brothers who formerly worked at SpaceX, and CEO Robert Carlisle says the integrated, refuelable logistics vision differentiates the company from peers. Argo Space Corporation is developing the Argonaut, a reusable, refuelable spacecraft designed to perform energy-intensive transfers to GEO, cislunar space and beyond using a water plasma thruster. The company plans to harvest and store lunar water to refuel vehicles in space, enabling a transportation network untethered from Earth-based propellant. In the near term Argo intends to sell in-space transportation services using water launched from Earth, including satellite inspections and orbital debris removal. Founders Robert, Ryan and Kirby Carlisle are SpaceX veterans; Ryan led launch engineering work including in-space refueling efforts, and Kirby worked on post-launch refurbishment. Argo is Hermosa Beach–based and has closed early funding to continue development on its technology. The company aims to demonstrate its propulsion technology and capture mechanism in a mission planned for late 2024 and to begin lunar regolith processing to produce water in the late 2020s.

  • AstroForge

    Participated · Seed · May 2022

AstroForge mines asteroids and develops related space-mining capabilities. The company is based in Huntington Beach, Calif., and was co-founded by Matt Gialich and Jose Acain. It raised $40M in a Series A round to support its operations and development. AstroForge intends to use the new capital to expand operations and advance its development efforts. The financing increases the company’s total funding to date to $55M. Participating investors in the Series A include 776, Initialized, Caladan, YC, Uncorrelated Ventures, and Jed McCaleb. Astroforge is building in-space refining and asteroid-mining capability aimed at extracting and returning platinum-group metals. The founders say their technique requires a high-rated vacuum and zero-g and does not involve landing on target asteroids. The company is targeting relatively small bodies (20 meters to 1.5 kilometers) and plans lightweight payloads under ~200 kilograms to leverage rideshare launches. Astroforge has a partnership with OrbAstro to build its first satellite and has secured a spot on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rideshare for a demonstration flight next year. To kickstart operations it closed a $13 million seed round that the company says will fund its first two missions. The company was founded in January by Matt Gialich and Jose Acain, has four full-time employees, and is hiring for seven more roles.
