  • Gradyent

    Participated · Series B · Apr 2025

Gradyent offers a real-time Digital Twin Platform that creates a digital copy of entire heating and cooling grids, integrating geographical, weather, and sensor data with physics-based models and AI. The platform lets energy providers optimise system performance, increase operational control, simulate future scenarios, and coordinate multiple energy carriers including heating, cooling, electricity and CO₂. Gradyent reports its technology can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 10%, lower operational costs, and save up to 2% of capital expenditures; an offline analysis helped Helen close a coal plant, cutting Helsinki heat-production emissions by up to 40%. The company partners with leading energy firms across more than 35 European cities, including Veolia, Shell and Helen, and is piloting industrial use cases such as Shell’s steam grid in Rotterdam. Gradyent will use new funding to expand its Digital Twin Platform, grow its team and accelerate global growth to optimise and transform heating and cooling grids worldwide. Financially, the company has just closed a major growth round to support that expansion. Gradyent is a Dutch climate-tech company founded in 2019 in Rotterdam that builds Digital Twin software to help heating companies optimise district heating systems. Its platform creates a digital copy of a physical heat system by combining geographical, weather and sensor data with physical models and AI. The software enables real-time optimisation and simulations of future situations, which the company says saves on average 20% heat loss, 10% CO2 emissions and 5–10% fuel costs. Gradyent aims to increase the efficiency of existing systems and accelerate the transition to more sustainable, integrated energy systems to deliver affordable, reliable heat. The company has brought in €10 million in funding to support those efforts. Eneco, a long-time customer, joined the round alongside existing investors Capricorn Partners, ENERGIIQ and Helen Ventures.

Exasun develops and produces high-quality building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) roof systems, including glass-glass panels and products branded X-Roof and X-Tile. Its panels are manufactured on its own production line in The Hague, with special-dimension modules and patented color technology for seamless integration. The company says its in-roof systems generate more energy than conventional on-roof systems, are quick to install, and over a thousand households have its systems installed. Founded in 2012 by Michiel Mensink and Jan Jaap van Os, Exasun developed its advanced production line with suppliers, knowledge institutions, and Dutch machine builders. It has a strategic partnership with Wienerberger, which manages European sales and distribution, enabling expansion beyond the Netherlands.
