Florida Opportunity Fund

800 N Magnolia Ave, Suite 1100, Orlando, FL, 32803, United States

Overview

Based on legislation created in 2007 and launched in 2008, the Florida Opportunity Fund (FOF) provides venture capital to emerging Florida companies, leverages additional capital resources, builds relationships with experienced entrepreneurs to lead growth companies, and partners with other organizations to strengthen the early-stage finance ecosystem in Florida. FOF is a not-for-profit corporation and, by statute, is not an instrumentality of the State of Florida. FOF was created because the Florida Legislature found there was a need to increase the availability of seed capital and early stage venture equity capital for emerging companies in the State, including, without limitation, enterprises in life sciences, information technology, advanced manufacturing processes, aviation and aerospace, and homeland security and defense, as well as other strategic technologies.

  • RapidPulse

    Participated · Series B · Jul 2026

RapidPulse is developing a pulsed (cyclic) aspiration platform and a range of catheter sizes intended to improve clot engagement, removal efficiency and procedural consistency during mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke. The company’s system is being evaluated in the TURBO investigational device exemption study, conducted in the United States and Europe to support its U.S. regulatory pathway. RapidPulse plans to expand clinical experience with its system across leading stroke centers as part of that program and may pursue FDA approval if clinical data support a submission. The platform strategy includes continued development of the catheter portfolio and broader clinical use to gather performance data across different patients, clot types and treatment settings. RapidPulse was spun out of medical device incubator Syntheon and is headquartered in Miami. Financially, the company recently raised an oversubscribed $48 million Series B co-led by Medtronic, TechWald Next and S3 Ventures, with additional participation from SBI Investment Company, the Florida Opportunity Fund, and existing investors.

  • Kalogon

    Participated · Equity · Jun 2026

Founded in 2019 by CEO Tim Balz, Kalogon develops smart seating solutions focused on seated health, serving people who sit for extended periods across healthcare, aviation and other settings. Its proprietary technology combines real-time sensors, adaptive surfaces and personalized control to restore circulation, protect skin integrity and reduce fatigue. The company manufactures all products in-house and goes to market via clinical partnerships, major DME distributors and direct sales. Kalogon recently raised $5.75M and plans to use the proceeds to expand operations and advance product development. The article notes returning investors among the new round, but does not disclose revenue or user metrics.

  • Omeza

    Participated · Series A · Apr 2026

Omeza develops and commercializes marine-derived collagen and lipid products for advanced wound care; its lead product, OCM, is an FDA-cleared drug-device wound matrix derived from marine lipids and cold-water fish peptides. OCM is applied to complex wounds and is described as reducing inflammation, disrupting bacterial biofilm, and supporting tissue regeneration as an alternative to traditional skin grafts. The company is already generating revenue through a nationwide commercial partnership while advancing clinical programs aimed at expanding reimbursement across major hard-to-heal wounds. Omeza plans to use the Series A proceeds to accelerate clinical trials, expand commercial capabilities, and build its clinical and real-world evidence base to support broader payer coverage. The company has recently strengthened its governance with new board appointments as it prepares for its next phase of institutional growth.

  • Beycome

    Participated · Seed · Dec 2025

Founded in 2020, Beycome offers a direct-to-consumer platform that allows users to sell, buy and close homes for an upfront flat fee ranging from $99 to $999, rather than paying traditional agent commissions. Its proprietary AI engine, Artur, guides customers through pricing, marketing, offer management, paperwork, closing coordination and integrated title services. To date the service has facilitated nearly 20,000 home transactions—averaging roughly one closing every 40 minutes—and claims to have saved users more than $215 million in fees. After three years of bootstrapping, the company has reached profitability. Management plans to use new capital to deepen AI capabilities, expand into additional states, and grow its title-services and buyer-focused programs. The team is also recruiting additional technical talent and strategic partners to build what it calls a fully integrated real-estate ecosystem.

  • Exowatt

    Participated · Series A · Nov 2025

Exowatt’s core product is the P3 unit, a shipping-container-sized metal box topped with lenses that concentrate sunlight onto heat-retaining bricks. A fan carries the heat to a Stirling engine and generator, enabling each thermal battery to store energy for up to five days and deliver round-the-clock electricity. The system’s efficiency rivals photovoltaic solar plus lithium-ion storage, while its compact, modular design is intended to unlock mass manufacturing learning curves. Exowatt is targeting production of one million units per year, a scale that management says will let it hit its one-cent-per-kilowatt-hour cost goal. Demand appears strong: the company reports a backlog of roughly 10 million P3 units, equivalent to 90 GWh of capacity. Longer term, Exowatt intends to deploy millions—and eventually billions—of units to power the rapidly expanding fleet of AI data centers in sun-rich regions. The approach repurposes decades-old concentrated solar technology but packages it for low-cost, large-scale manufacturing.
