Overview

Imec* is a world-leading independent research center in nanoelectronics and nanotechnology. Imec is headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, and has offices in Belgium, the Netherlands, Taiwan, US, China and Japan. Its staff of more than 1,650 people include over 550 industrial residents and guest researchers. In 2008, imec's revenue (P&L) was 270 million euro. Imec's More Moore research targets semiconductor scaling for the 22nm technology node and beyond. With its More than Moore research, imec invents technology for nomadic embedded systems, wireless autonomous transducer solutions, biomedical electronics, photovoltaics, organic electronics and GaN power electronics. Imec's research bridges the gap between the fundamental research at universities and R&D in the industry. It has unique processing and system know-how, intellectual property portfolio, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and a strong and worldwide network position. This makes imec a key partner for shaping the technology of the future. *imec is a registered trademark for the activities of imec International (a legal entity set up under Belgian law as a "stichting van openbaar nut”), imec Belgium (imec vzw supported by the Flemish Government), imec the Netherlands (Stichting imec Nederland, part of Holst Centre which is supported by the Dutch Government) and imec Taiwan (imec Taiwan Co.).

  • Companion.energy

    Participated · Seed · Jun 2026

Companion.energy operates a platform that unifies energy contracts, live operational data, and distributed assets to continuously forecast demand, track market exposure, and automatically execute energy decisions. The company positions its software as a system of execution rather than a monitoring dashboard, directing assets to times of lower prices or profitable grid sales. Founded in 2022, the 19-person startup reports more than €1M in annual recurring revenue after tenfold growth since May 2024 and serves major customers including TotalEnergies, KPN, the Port of Antwerp–Bruges, Interparking, and Proximus Group. It now manages over 2 TWh of annual energy use and supports more than 200 MW of distributed solar, wind, batteries, and EV charging assets. Companion.energy plans to use its recent funding to enhance multi-asset, multi-market optimisation and to expand into Germany and Spain.

  • Vertical Compute

    Participated · Seed · Mar 2026

Vertical Compute is a Belgian semiconductor startup engineering chiplets in which vertical memory stacks are integrated directly on top of compute logic during 300 mm wafer fabrication. This 3D architecture restructures on-chip data flow and addresses the longstanding “memory wall,” cutting latency and energy use compared with traditional 2D memory layouts. The company has already produced its first test chip demonstrating the concept. With a headcount of 25, Vertical Compute now plans to shift from validation to the commercial rollout of its chiplets for emerging AI platforms. Financially, the startup has secured €57 million to date, including a €20 million round in 2022 and the latest €37 million raise. No revenue figures have been disclosed, but the fresh capital provides runway for scaling manufacturing and bringing its products to market.

  • Nxgsat

    Led · Equity · Oct 2025

Nxgsat focuses on designing a next-generation, high-speed 5G satellite modem that bridges terrestrial and multi-orbit satellite connectivity. The modem targets customers that require seamless interoperability across networks and aligns with European initiatives such as IRIS², the EU’s forthcoming sovereign LEO/MEO constellation. The company has already landed both commercial and governmental contracts in the space sector, demonstrating early market traction. With fresh capital, Nxgsat plans to accelerate product development, expand its technical and commercial teams, and push toward larger-scale deployment programs. Founder and CEO/CTO Alain Rolle views this moment as pivotal for scaling operations and solidifying the firm’s position in the European satellite communications landscape. The €1.2 million funding round bolsters the company’s financial runway and supports near-term hiring and go-to-market activities.

  • OnTracx

    Participated · Seed · Sep 2025

Founded in 2023 as a Ghent University spin-off, OnTracx transforms biomechanics research into a smart sensor and analytics platform for the global running and sports-medicine market. A lightweight sensor worn on the lower leg measures tendon, muscle and joint load, with a unique emphasis on tracking cumulative stress over time rather than single-run metrics. The system combines objective load data with self-reported symptoms to give runners, physical therapists, podiatrists and coaches a clearer picture of injury risk and rehabilitation progress. With an addressable base of more than 110 million runners worldwide, the company targets those prone to lower-extremity overuse injuries. Recently secured seed financing provides the resources to refine the hardware, enhance the digital platform and scale commercialisation efforts. Near-term plans include preparing for market entry in Europe and the United States while deepening collaborations across the sports-medicine ecosystem. The €1.2 million seed round and accompanying VLAIO innovation grant constitute the company’s first external capital.

  • Nuclivision

    Participated · Seed · Apr 2025

Nuclivision is a Ghent-based medtech founded in 2022 that develops Nuclarity, an AI software platform to enhance PET imaging. Nuclarity aims to shorten scan times and lower required radiotracer doses while preserving image quality. The company targets PET use cases in cancer and Alzheimer’s diagnosis and treatment planning. Nuclivision is in the final phase of regulatory approval and plans a European commercial launch with a U.S. entry expected later this year. The business recently secured external funding to support the commercial rollout of its flagship product. The company is presented as part of a broader wave of European deeptech startups applying AI to complex healthcare procedures. Nuclivision offers an AI-driven imaging platform that automates the identification of symptoms on PET readouts, enabling faster diagnoses without undermining accuracy. The company targets nuclear medicine workflows to reduce costs and lower radioactive exposure for patients and staff. It was founded last June by Gregor Strobbe, Nikos Paragios, Jean-Briac Prévost, Alex Maes, Roland Hustinx, Stefaan Vandenberghe and Dr. Sezgin Üstmert. Nuclivision is based in Ghent. The startup disclosed a fundraising from Ghent VC Luminaires and says it expects to have sufficient runway to refine its PET product. The articles highlight the company’s mission to make nuclear imaging and therapies more accessible and more cost-effective.
