  • Otonomi

    Participated · Equity · Oct 2022

Otonomi.ai develops a blockchain-based platform that streamlines cargo delay insurance, giving shipowners and cargo operators rapid, data-driven coverage. The system combines real-time data feeds and automated risk assessments to improve transparency and shorten the traditionally slow claims process in the marine and air-cargo markets. By focusing on delay protection, the company aims to reduce supply-chain disruptions and lower operating costs for logistics stakeholders. The newly raised capital will be used to enhance the platform’s technological capabilities and widen its geographic and customer reach. Investors see the product as a modern answer to long-standing inefficiencies in cargo insurance, an industry that has been slow to adopt digital tools. Although specific revenue or user figures were not disclosed, the Series A round underscores growing market traction and positions Otonomi to accelerate product development and commercial expansion.

Led by CEO Matt Rodak, the fintech marketplace raises capital for residential rehab loans and offers passive wealth-generation opportunities for peer-to-peer lenders. The platform can provide funding in as few as seven business days and typically underwrites loans over an average of eight months, assessing loans based on the characteristics of the real estate. The company operates from New York City and Cleveland, OH. It plans to use new capital to expand sales and marketing, build an internal capital markets capability, and accelerate technology and product development. Fund That Flip is a New York City–based marketplace lender that brings short-term residential rehab lending online for experienced "rehabbers" and accredited investors. The platform speeds loan decisions, originates loans according to industry best practices, orders appraisals, and invites accredited investors to co-invest in projects. It targets rehabbers who do 3–20 projects per year and estimates an annual addressable market of roughly $60B in short-term loans. Investors on the platform can access projects targeting 10–14% annual returns and can begin investing with as little as $5,000. The company charges borrowers a 2–4% origination fee and a 1–2% loan servicing spread. Planned milestones for 2016 focus on ramping the team, implementing institutional lender processes, continuing technology development, and developing strategic partnerships.
