  • Dealflicks

    Participated · Seed · Jul 2014

Dealflicks operates a mobile app that surfaces discounted movie tickets and concession offers by partnering with independent theaters and chains. The app is live in more than 400 theater locations and works with nine of the top 50 U.S. theater chains. Theaters set discounts by showtime, day of week, or expected attendance, with discounts up to 60% and typical ticket discounts around 30% (ticket+popcorn deals ~35–40% off). Dealflicks says roughly 88% of movie seats go unsold and up to 95% beyond opening weekend, driving demand for its service. The company plans to move toward purely dynamic pricing using its data to predict attendance and target discounts by factors like user ratings, opening-weekend performance, and weather. Dealflicks raised seed funding to expand its partnerships and advance its pricing capabilities.

  • Switchcam

    Participated · Seed · Feb 2013

Switchcam provides tools for event organizers and attendees to collect and combine videos from multiple contributors. It has launched an iPhone app that notifies users of nearby events and enables them to join as contributors and upload footage after registering via Facebook. On the organizer side Switchcam Director is a cloud-based dashboard for publicizing events, soliciting submissions, managing uploaded clips, and creating landing pages that highlight selected videos. The company’s technology syncs multiple camera angles and provides seamless transitions so viewers can choose favorite clips rather than relying on a single director. Switchcam has focused heavily on music and concerts, with past clients including Lollapalooza, PBS, and Anheuser Busch, and says it sees broader use across conferences, sports, and meetups. The product was rolling out in public beta at the time of the article, and the company has raised $1.2 million from investors including Mark Cuban, 500 Startups, and Turner Media Camp.
