- Whitespace
Participated · Series A · Nov 2025
Founded in 2015 by Paul Jenkinson and Andrew McCartney, Whitespace develops sovereign and secure artificial-intelligence infrastructure for the UK’s most critical regulated environments. Its flagship product, Collective, is an AI operating system built entirely in the UK that lets organisations build, deploy, govern and scale AI across cloud, edge, on-premise and air-gapped systems. The platform is already powering multiple UK Defence and National Security missions and Whitespace is one of only four SMEs holding an enterprise agreement with the Ministry of Defence. The company positions sovereignty, security and control as core differentiators, aiming to let governments and enterprises own and trust their AI infrastructure. Traction on “both sides of the Atlantic” and partnerships with large technology providers have helped validate its market position. Proceeds from the latest financing will fund product development, expand engineering and delivery capacity at headquarters, reinforce the leadership team, and scale customer-success programmes domestically and internationally. Over the long term, Whitespace aims to advance toward “superintelligence” that augments human decision-making in complex, high-risk environments.
- BioBeats
Led · Equity · Aug 2018
BioBeats develops evidence-based wellbeing products and a workforce wellbeing management platform that combine biometric and psychometric feedback from wearables and smartphones with machine learning to deliver personalized stress and productivity tools. Its flagship app, BioBase, enables users to track, manage and control stress and identify personal stress triggers. The company has built a wearable solution, a secure API and a cloud platform ready to scale, and cites clinical trials with BUPA, AXA and the Center for Digital Economy at the University of Surrey. BioBeats has received UK government awards via InnovateUK and has academic validation published in Frontiers of Human Neuroscience (January 2017). The team emphasizes its AI-driven, science-backed approach and plans to expand product capabilities and global reach. The company recently closed a £2.4M funding round to support further development and scaling. BioBeats operates a biometric machine-learning platform that ingests data from wearables and smartphones to deliver stress and wellbeing insights to healthcare providers and employers. The company uses heart rate, skin conductance, movement and behavior to build an emotional picture of stress and design personalized coaching programs. Its Hear and Now app produces adaptive visuals and music in real time from wrist-worn wearable data to coach users and aims to replace human therapists for detecting stress, fatigue and burnout. The platform can integrate with HR systems and productivity suites to deliver workforce wellbeing and productivity insights and is running pilot programs in major U.K. and U.S. companies. BioBeats plans to roll Hear and Now out to both consumer and corporate wellness markets following the raise. The company raised $2.28M led by White Cloud Capital, with participation from AXA Strategic Ventures and IQ Capital. Founded in 2013 by Dr. David Plans, Nadeem Kassam and David Morelli. BioBeats builds a platform that collects and analyzes physiological signals from wearables and converts those signals into adaptive media—custom music and playlists that react in real time to a user’s body. Its first product, Pulse, detects heartbeat via an iPhone camera and plays music to match activity level; it plans to release BioMuse to build playlists from body signals. The company intends to be device-agnostic, ingesting data from phones, FitBit, FuelBand, UP and other sensors. BioBeats is developing both consumer iOS/Android apps that generate or select music and a clinical app aimed at hospitals. It is exploring revenue from consumer app sales and data-based models sold to insurers and medical customers. The company has used its seed financing to expand the team, including hiring Kristin Shine, M.D., as Chief Medical Officer.

Synthace has signed five strategic GTM partnerships with lab-equipment suppliers Tecan, SPT Labtech, Repligen, Hamilton and BioTek. Business momentum includes a greater than 225% increase in annual recurring revenue and 180% net revenue retention. The company plans to use new funding to fuel commercial and go-to-market growth, expand access globally, and add senior U.S. leadership (new VPs of marketing and sales). Synthace develops Antha, a cloud software platform and language for biology designed to automate and improve the success rate of biological research and development. The company positions itself as a leader in Computer Aided Biology, encompassing digital capabilities powered by AI for designing, simulating and analysing biological systems and physical capabilities enabled by automation to execute wet-lab experiments. Antha aims to create reproducible, scalable workflows that can be readily edited, shared and automated on labs' existing equipment. Synthace serves customers across pharma, agritech and industrial biotechnology and is building its cell and gene therapy customer base. The company has been recognised by Gartner and the World Economic Forum for its role in enabling the Lab of the Future and Industry 4.0. Synthace plans to use new funding to drive continued product development and accelerate global awareness of its solutions. Synthace builds Antha, an open-source operating system that replaces many manual laboratory processes to accelerate biotechnology research and development. The platform enables biologists to abstract workflows, automate experiments, and build on shared work to speed design and scale-up of biological products. Customers include Dow Agrosciences (first customer, MVP installed in fall 2016), Merck & Co (began using Antha in January 2017), and firms such as GSK, Fujifilm Diosynth and Microsoft. The company positions its product as a software layer that helps develop drugs, crops and biologically manufactured materials more efficiently, and compares its role to companies like Ginkgo or Zymergen while focusing on productizing the technology. The recent financing will fund expansion of an ecosystem of biologists, lab-instrument manufacturers, reagent and consumable suppliers, bio-design and analysis software developers, and cloud providers. Synthace applies synthetic biology technologies to engineer and optimize novel biological systems for the production of specialty chemicals and biological products. The platform is initially focused on specialty chemicals but is applicable across healthcare, energy and agriculture. The company is a spin-out of University College London and is led by CEO Tim Fell. Synthace intends to use new funding to demonstrate production of its first chemical products at scale. After demonstrating scale production, the company plans to form partnerships within the chemicals industry to commercialize those products. It also collaborates with academic partners, including UCL and the University of Manchester, on technology development.
