  • Aravita

    Led · Equity · Mar 2023

Aravita is developing an AI-powered solution for supermarkets that uses variables such as climate, seasonality, consumer behavior and economic scenario to manage purchasing of fresh food and reduce surplus and lost sales. The company targets supermarkets because their point-of-sale data enables low-demand forecasting and faster model training. Aravita has a conceptual prototype, a first set of algorithms, and has started a pilot with a mid-sized supermarket chain near São Paulo while integrating a historical database into its models. The startup raised a $2.5 million investment earlier this year co-led by Qualcomm Ventures and 17Sigma to fund hiring and product development. The new capital will be used for inventory management features, point-of-sale integration, and technology development including AI and computer vision for process automation. Aravita plans to add a second pilot customer, aims for product-market fit next year, and intends to expand its model into other supermarket departments such as baked goods, pastry, cold cuts, fish and meat.
