The company was founded by Daniel García Morán, Pedro Palao, Pablo Carretero and Iago Salgado, and three founders were part of the founding team of Devo. 8Layers aims to address rising credential-based attacks and growing regulatory requirements faced by financial institutions and other organisations. The recent pre-Seed extension brings total funding to €2.5 million to support go-to-market and European commercial expansion.

The company intends to bring to market a Field Programmable Photonic Gate Array (FPPGA) chip and will use recent funding to expand its engineering team and advance product development.
