  • Sunrise

    Participated · Equity · Sep 2025

Founded in 2015, Belgium-headquartered Sunrise Group pairs FDA-cleared sleep-diagnostic hardware—most notably its mandibular movement sensor—with a full-stack software platform to power Dreem Health, its U.S. digital sleep clinic. Patients connect online with licensed sleep specialists who diagnose and treat conditions such as sleep apnea and insomnia entirely from home and with insurance coverage. Sunrise has regulatory clearances in all 50 states, contracts with payors that collectively insure more than 170 million Americans, and a clinical network exceeding 500 referring providers. The company operates with a team of 80+ clinicians, engineers, and researchers and positions its integrated tech-and-care model as a scalable answer to the severe shortage of sleep physicians. Revenue figures were not disclosed, but the firm secured a $29 million capital infusion to fund nationwide expansion and next-generation hardware and software development. Future plans include enlarging clinical services, accelerating U.S. market penetration, and continuing R&D on detection, monitoring, and treatment technologies for a broad range of sleep disorders.

iSTAR Medical is a clinical-stage medical technology company based in Wavre, Belgium, focused on developing novel ophthalmic implants for the treatment of glaucoma. Its lead device candidate is MINIjectTM, an ab-interno MIGS implant designed to sustainably reduce intraocular pressure by enhancing aqueous humour outflow from the anterior chamber to the supraciliary space. The company holds exclusive rights to the STAR® biomaterial from the University of Washington for ophthalmic use, which provides the foundation for MINIject. Led by CEO Michel Vanbrabant, iSTAR is advancing MINIject through clinical development. The company intends to use recently raised funds to support development and the path to commercialization in Europe and the United States. iSTAR Medical is a Wavre, Belgium-based private medical device company developing ophthalmic implants for the treatment of glaucoma. The company leverages a proprietary STAR® material to advance a pipeline of devices. Its first-generation device is STARflo and MINIject is designed to significantly reduce intra-ocular pressure by enhancing aqueous humour outflow to the suprachoroidal space. The company is led by CEO Michel Vanbrabrant. iSTAR closed a €10m Series B equity financing to support its development programs. The company intends to use the funds to complete MINIject product development and to fund its European CE-Marking clinical study. iSTAR Medical, a spinout of Healionics Corporation led by founder and CEO Michel Alvarez, develops STARflo™, a non-degradable, precision-pore implant made from STAR® Biomaterial that augments uveoscleral outflow to lower intraocular pressure. STARflo is designed as a bleb-free, microporous drainage system for patients with open-angle glaucoma and received CE Mark approval in 2012; it is available through distributors in select countries. The company plans to use new funding to support further clinical studies of STARflo and to pursue regulatory submission and clearance in the United States. iSTAR also intends to advance its R&D product pipeline with the proceeds. The company recently expanded its board in conjunction with the financing.
