  • Cocoon

    Cocoon develops a rapid cooling, low-capex, modular process that retrofits into existing electric arc furnace waste handling to convert steel slag into a high-performance supplementary cementitious material (SCM). The company’s product matches traditional SCM performance while reducing the embodied CO2 of concrete by up to 40%. Cocoon has piloted its technology at a major steel mill, completed third-party validation of its material in concrete applications, and established an R&D facility and concrete testing lab in London. With demand for SCMs growing roughly 6–7% annually and supply tightening as legacy industrial sources retire, Cocoon targets faster, capital-efficient deployment by co-locating at steel plants to minimize logistics and leverage existing operations. The company is scaling hiring across the U.K. and U.S. and aims to deploy more than 50 sites in the U.S. and Europe (targeting 50 sites by 2035) following its U.S. commercial demo.

  • Unnatural Products

    Unnatural Products has built an integrated discovery platform to engineer synthetic macrocyclic peptides at scale, combining computational design, automated chemistry, and high-throughput biological testing. The company positions macrocyclic peptides as a modality that can marry biologics-level selectivity with small-molecule delivery properties, including potential oral delivery and cell permeability. Its pipeline targets cardiometabolic, inflammatory, and immunological diseases, and the company is advancing lead programs toward clinical development. Unnatural Products has established collaborations with pharma and biotech partners including Novartis, Merck, BridgeBio and argenx; the Novartis deal includes up to $100 million upfront and up to $1.7 billion in milestones. The recent $45 million Series B will fund further platform development and pipeline advancement. The company is headquartered in Santa Cruz, California.

In the poultry sector, the system has already analyzed more than 170 million eggs, offering an alternative to chick culling and improving sustainability. The company is now broadening its “Vertical AI” capabilities to fruit and vegetable inspection, enabling producers to detect internal defects in items like avocados and mangoes without cutting them open. Beyond food, Orbem aims to ‘industrialize MRI’ for human healthcare and is assembling what it calls the world’s largest biological imaging dataset to unlock new medical insights. Fresh capital will support global expansion, with priority given to the U.S. market via a new Houston office, while continuing product development. Orbem claims to be the first—and so far only—company to demonstrate MRI at this speed and scale, positioning itself as a leader in fast, automated biological imaging.

    Mach is a Tier-1 supplier of hardware and software that delivers autonomous navigation, perception, radar, connectivity, remote control and fleet-management capabilities to off-road equipment manufacturers. Formed in 2023 through the merger of two autonomy companies, it leverages more than a decade of R&D and claims 500,000 driverless miles and 250,000 autonomous operating hours in the field. The company’s modular stack—branded Mach Command, Perception, RadX, Nexus, Pilot and Ops—allows over 25 OEM partners to integrate autonomy faster and de-risk product development. Recent partnerships include Amazone in agriculture and landcare, Dok-Ing in defense robotics, and Alamo Group in industrial equipment. Mach targets industries grappling with labor shortages and safety demands, positioning its platform as a quicker, standardized route to commercial autonomy. The business model focuses on being a single trusted partner for OEMs, providing ruggedized hardware plus scalable software. Proceeds from its latest funding will be used to scale production and support its expanding OEM ecosystem.

  • Lyric Bio

    Lyric Bio is a 2024 spin-out from Prellis Biologics that is engineering human-tissue-based production systems for donor-derived and protein therapeutics. Its proprietary platform recreates the cell density of human tissue inside large-scale 3D bioreactors, enabling up to 100-fold improvements in manufacturing efficiency and an estimated ten-fold reduction in the cost of IVIg and SCIg therapies. The company is initially targeting the $20 billion global IVIg market, which is constrained by limited human plasma supply. By reducing donor dependency, Lyric aims to increase patient access, improve product consistency, and strengthen supply-chain resilience. The founding team includes CEO Kayj Shannon, an advanced-manufacturing and synthetic-biology entrepreneur, and CSO Dr. Melanie Matheu, a pioneer in 3D tissue engineering and laser bioprinting. Based in San Carlos, California, Lyric Bio plans to scale its bioreactor technology to commercial production while expanding its pipeline of donor-derived biologics. The company has secured $6.6 million in seed funding to advance platform development and pilot manufacturing.
