- Previa Medical
Participated · Seed · Feb 2023
Previa Medical develops SEPSI-SCORE, an AI platform that analyses electronic medical records to detect and define sepsis infections, in some cases up to 48 hours before symptoms appear. The system is trained to interpret personal data from patients' electronic health records, including vital signs, and aims to reduce sepsis mortality and shorten hospital stays. The product was certified as a medical device in 2021. Previa plans to use the recent seed proceeds to fund a new multicentre clinical trial to further validate the technology, recruit users, expand product reach, and prepare for a full commercial launch. The company originated from an AI for health challenge launched in 2022 by Bpifrance and the French health ministry and has received grant funding from that initiative. The seed raise totaled €2.1 million and will support both clinical validation and commercialization efforts.
- Calixar
Participated · Equity · Feb 2015
Calixar completed a €1m (US$1.1m) financing to advance its platform for native isolation of complex therapeutic targets and antigens. Backed by president & CEO Emmanuel Dejean, the company preserves the original structure and function of membrane proteins (GPCRs, ion channels, transporters, receptors, anchors and viral proteins). Calixar owns five patents and offers products and services to pharmaceutical companies, biotechs and academic teams for development of conformational antibodies, new vaccines, structure-based drug discovery and HTS assays. The financing was supplemented by repayable advance and a specific credit supported by the European Union. The company said it would use the funds to advance development of new influenza vaccines and high-affinity antibodies to GPCRs. These assets were expected to be available for partnership with the pharmaceutical industry by the second semester of 2015. Calixar provides a comprehensive range of services focused exclusively on membrane proteins, including identification, production, extraction, purification, stabilization and crystallization. Its patented technology has been validated on about a score of targets, including GPCR receptors, ionic channels, transporters and viral proteins, and can isolate and purify membrane proteins in their complete native form that remains stable in solution. The company's services are aimed at private and public research establishments involved in antibody development, drug discovery (screening and drug design) and vaccines. Co-founded by Emmanuel Dejean and Pierre Falson in January 2011 and based in Lyon, France, Calixar currently employs nine people. It expects to generate revenues of €350,000 in 2012 and plans to recruit up to 30 people between then and 2016, targeting annual revenues of €4.5m by 2016 from its fee-for-service activities.
