- B-COS
Participated · Seed · May 2026
B-COS develops a ‘plant vaccine’ approach that uses chains of sugars produced via targeted fermentation with genetically modified bacteria to boost plant immune responses against diseases and pests. The company applies these carbohydrates by spraying them on plants or coating seeds, and emphasizes that the substances are biological and cause no subsequent environmental damage. B-COS is about a year old and is a spin-off from Ghent University; it has received support from VIB and field-trial financing from Nichino Europe. Recent funding includes a €1 million grant from the Boerenbond investment fund and VP Capital with contributions from VLAIO, which will finance greenhouse and field testing, dosing optimization, and more cost-efficient production. The grant also supports hiring three full-time staff to advance product development. B-COS aims to file a European regulatory application for its biopesticide/plant vaccine by 2029 and projects potential market availability around 2032. It already has a growth-stimulating product with a pending Belgian application that it hopes to commercialize within about a year.
- Affix Labs
Led · Equity · Apr 2026
Affix Labs develops a patented formulation method that dissolves oily, water-insoluble active ingredients into water-based systems and applies a controlled-release layer that extends efficacy to 12 weeks. Its flagship product, Repeltec, is dermatologically tested and contains no neurotoxic compounds. Repeltec has active substance authorisations in Germany, France, Austria, and Norway, and the company is expanding distribution across those markets with the UK and Poland planned next. Affix Labs is launching a white-label B2B offering, "Powered by Affix Labs," to let FMCG companies, hospitality operators, and pest control manufacturers integrate its technology. The company raised €1 million in a funding round led by VP Capital and Oost NL to support its European rollout. Affix Labs is headquartered in Nijmegen, Netherlands.
- HULO.ai
Led · Seed · Oct 2025
HULO.ai is a Dutch water-technology company that combines artificial intelligence with physics-based models to identify, localise, and prioritise leaks and other anomalies in drinking-water infrastructure. Its hardware-agnostic SaaS platform ingests pressure and flow data already collected by utilities, eliminating the need for new sensors or district-metered areas and enabling rapid, scalable deployments. By converting reactive leak hunting into proactive, data-driven management, HULO targets the 30 % of treated water currently lost worldwide through ageing networks. The company operates in the Netherlands, wider EU, the UK, and has begun entering Latin America. Management claims that, at scale, the technology could help save more than four million Olympic-size swimming pools of water annually by 2030. Proceeds from its latest financing will expand AI capabilities, network analytics, cybersecurity features, and customer-success resources to accelerate global roll-out. HULO’s business model is subscription-based software, and the recent seed infusion brings total external funding to at least €2.3 million.
- Zymofix
Participated · Equity · Nov 2024
Zymofix develops and operates Zyft, a proprietary solid-state fermentation platform that cultivates microorganisms on thermally processed agricultural sidestreams which remain part of the delivered formulation. The company is partnering with Ghent University on MicroFix, a three-year, €3.2 million research collaboration led by Prof. Tina Kyndt to build a scientific framework linking production conditions to microbial physiology, functional traits, and crop responses. Zymofix secured a €1.9 million VLAIO grant to fund its portion of that research, which will involve microbiology, plant science and modelling work. The project aims to make microbial agricultural products more predictable and reliable, strengthen regional microbial biotechnology expertise, and support creation of high-skilled R&D positions. The company also positions its approach as supporting circular bioeconomy goals through valorisation of agricultural sidestreams.
